Dubik123
I'm hoping someone here could help me since I am kind of desperate at this point.I am setting up a modded FNV using EssArrBee's "Fear and Loathing" guide as well as Dirty Weasel Media's YouTube series on Mod Organizer. So far, everything is well except for one crucial thing. Whenever I am in the Wasteland a pass a certain distance, the game dips to about 30 FPS. I'm thinking it might be related to this problem:Â As you can see in the video, my game seems to have trouble loading distant objects at the right time and basically loads them right in my face. And whenever something loads, I get an FPS drop. I posted a topic about this on Nexus Forums a while ago, didn't find a solution. Some folks blamed it on my memory card but I don't have this problem in other games, so I doubt that's the issue. I also thought it's related to NMC's texture pack but I disabled it and the FPS still dips. Lastly, I checked stuff on Google and found this:https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/7128101-framerate-drop-due-to-lod/ I ran FNVLODGen, as is also suggested in EssArrBee's guide, but it only made things worse. Most LOD, like rocks or the Repconn dome was completely missing and the rest looked absolutely horrible with messed up textures. I had the NMC patch and everything, still messed up. dubiousintent
What do you have the Fallout INI setting for "uGridsToLoad" at? (Default is 5). Please see that setting (and related ones like "uExterior Cell Buffer") in the "TweakGuides for Fallout 3" article. In particular take note of the comment about higher settings and save games. -Dubious-
Dubik123
Thank you for responding. "uGridsToLoad" is at the default 5 and "uExteriorCellBuffer" is at 36. I also noticed that the biggest FPS drop so far happens just in front of the bridge in Primm, possibly caused by the entire town textures loading in. Looking at the original post, it was written in a rush and is not completely comprehensible. The FPS drop is almost certainly tied to LOD and object generation, since it only happens when the game is loading new stuff in, otherwise, it runs at 60FPS all the time with no problems. I tried following your tips in the forum post I linked in the OP, but FNVLODGen somehow messed up (or I did) and the LOD became even worse than before, with solid objects in the distance disappearing and no positive impact on the performance. We actually talked about the "slow loading LOD" issue before, in a previous post of mine a long time ago... There was no concrete solution, just that it could be a hardware problem, specifically tied to my PC's motherboard, but since the bug doesn't happen in other games, I'd wager to say that it's a Fallout-specific problem. Anyway, thank you for taking the time to look into this again. Hopefully, the problem can be fixed for good this time.
dubiousintent
Viewing your video, I agree it does seem to be related to your VWD/LOD files. They are highly dependent upon your "load order" and if you had problems rebuilding them you need to resolve those issues. There is now an alternative tool to "FNVLODGen" called "xLODGen" (which is still in beta) that combines both the steps (TES4LL and FNVLODGen) into that one tool. You might want to give it a try. Otherwise, give FNVLODGen another try. As for your "solid objects in the distance disappearing", that would be related to INI settings for "fLODFadeOut..." discussed in "TweakGuides" on the page originally linked. As those default "buffer" values seem to be related to your problem, suggest you look into the "Memory, Loading & Multi-threading" section of the "TweakGuides for Fallout 3" article. Increasing those buffers (leaving "uGridsToLoad" alone) may be enough (if you have enough RAM). My previous thread comments regarding "stuttering" still hold, and apply to FPS drops in general. -Dubious-
