I had a problem similar to this awhile back.

I had installed an EMB mod, and when I uninstalled it I forgot to delete the d3d9.dll that came with it, I think because I had one there from before that worked well. This one made the game think I was using a nvidia card instead of ati.

This caused my game to run pretty crappy for awhile, and i spent days trying to get my fps back. I realized after awhile that the file didnt need to be there after trying a few other ENBs and once I uninstalled them and deleted that file it was like a whole new game, I could jack my settings all the way back up and it played like a champ.

So, check your main Skyrim folder, not the data folder, for any files that come with an ENB mod, and for the d3d9.dll file and remove it. If that is the issue of course.

Good luck.

This is getting a bit over my head, but what I think your suggesting Staind716 is that ENBs can actually improve my performance?

Because Im having these issues without any ENB installed.

What is SSAA btw?

Anyhow I might try using your vibrant ENB with the recommended .ini tweaks and see what happens.

@ sinnerman69 I am only a user not a modder, so yes I would have no clue as to how to find out if I have dirty or clean mods installed.

No, ENB won't improve your performance because it is pretty fps intensive itself. That info is for AMD users who do use ENB and are having trouble with performance. ENB is created by Boris Vorontsov who uses Nvidia. So AMD is not optimized as well because of that. My buddy is actually helping Boris with that so he knows of what he speaks. ;)

SSAA is a type of antialisasing available to AMD users as an option.

My friend is recovering from surgery he underwent today but as soon as he is up and about I will ask him to contact you. I use Nvidia myself but he has a lot of knowledge he can share with you that should help.

As you can tell from the title, my PC should be more than good enough. But when I'm playing Skyrim I'm not getting a very smooth enjoyable experience at all.

To be more specific- for example when I'm running/riding my horse in the outside space, every couple of meters or so my FPS goes from around 60 down to about 10-15 then back up again, it does this constantly.

I have tried a number of things including Gigantic Skyrim FPS Performance Patch, Ive tried increasing the games Ram with the Explorer suite, I've defragged my harddisc but none have help.

I have even dropped the quality down from ultra to high but I'm still having the same problem. I spoke with some other people and according to them I should be able to run the game no problem on ultra.

I dont really want to resort to playing on any lower setting than high, that defeats the purpose of me spending lots of money on my PC.

So I ask, Can someone please help me?

If you need more info on what mods I'm using or anything else just ask.

Thanks in advance.

[PC specs]

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T 3.2GHz 9MB Cache

RAM: Kingston HyperX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-1600 Kit

Graphics: MSI R7950 Radeon HD 7950 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 Video Card

OS: Windows 7 64bit

Nice specs you have there, almost identical to mine, except i have 2 7950's and you have the 1090t whicjh i think can be OC to 3.6ghz with turbo http://forums.nexusmods.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/thumbsup.gif its easy to do if you have decent mobo. you can get the app that allows you to OC it safely, as its the Maximum manufacturer default OC allowed without experimenting of course. http://forums.nexusmods.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/thumbsup.gif With my experience i bet your oc will be as stable as mine and use maybe 130watt compared to 125Watt be default.

Might give you that boost you need for Skyrim mods http://forums.nexusmods.com/public/style_emoticons/dark/thumbsup.gif

I did have some ENB files I missed when un-installing and I also removed that d3d9.dll file but it hasn't fixed my fps problem.

Thanks for all the support and helpful feed back so far guys, I appreciate it.

I'm determined to get this thing working properly.

Here's a video of how my game looks while playing.

Im using no ENBs or HD textures in this video and am running on high setting not ultra.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDI7i3sia54

As you can see it's not completely unplayable in fact at times it seems ok, but you can also see how 'immersion breaking' all those ugly fps drops can be.

I'm not really happy with it considering the money I have spent on my pc.

What do you guys think? am I being to picky?

Wow, that would drive me crazy.

I use 2 different programs when I play, to eliminate stuttering and frame drops.

I use dxtory (http://dxtory.com/v2-home-en.html) and d3doverrider (http://www.sendspace.com/file/euti3m). I use dxtory to limit my frame rate to 58, this makes it so I never get any stuttering from random drops of 1 or 2 fps. And d3doverrider forces vsync and tripple buffering, which my game stutters like a mad man if I dont use it.

Also this thing seemed to help me when I first started playing before the update optimized the game a bit (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/5695), not sure if its still viable, but it wouldnt hurt to try it.

Perhaps you should give those a shot, I never play without em.

  • 4 weeks later...

Well, in that case, what is also running on your machine?

What is your AV?

Your firewall?

Have you an Antirootkit?

I would advise to take an anti malware over your system, and in extreme cases use an live anti virus boot cd.

If all that does not work, try to get help in an anti-troyan site. Run Hijack-This and give the guys and gals there the protocol.

But from your descriptions it looks as if something is working on your hard drive in overtime.
