Please help me mod,

First off, when it comes to modding I am a complete, and utter MORON.

I've recently installed Oblivion 5th Year Anniversary Edition and I believe its the current patch, I then proceed to have a mess around on the tutorial and decide to start modding.

This is where the troubles begin...

I install the Unofficial Oblivion Patch and OBMM without a hitch, and think to myself "Time for FCOM" not having installed the mod previously, I am completely stumped when Mod Manager tells me something about .esp files in the folder. I then ask my friend, who helps me understand and separate the esp files as if it was egg from a shell...

Having believed I've done everything right, I go onto Oblivion to test it out... only to be disappointed.

I launch the game via the Steam Library, go through the launcher, double check the "Data Files" and proceed to move on and click "Play"

The screen goes black, the HDD light starts flashing but no disk sounds, after around 3 seconds of a blank, dark screen, I'm redirected to my desktop with no error message, no glitches , nothing at all. I try various other ways to launch the game (Directly clicking shortcut, via Mod Manager, even taking the disk out and in again, which strangely prompts a message saying if I wanted to use dropbox to view the photos and files...)

I then remember that when installing the cursed Wrye Bash thingie majig it told me I was attempting to edit the program directory (Program Files x86). And that I should install Oblivion as such

"C:\Games\Oblivion" (I may have used the wrong slash or something, but you get the idea).

So I uninstall Oblivion, loosing around an hour and half modding work, and when I go to reinstall it I suddenly find out I cant see C:\Games\.

Where the hell is it, and do I need to create it?

Any help is wanted, thanks in advance.

DETAILS :

All mods are, believed to be current version, my FCOM is v.9.9 I think, I have heard there's a Version 1.0 out that's allegedly "Easier to install", I assume I should install this instead of my "current" version(?)

My Operating System is Windows 7 64-bit. And I will answer any and all questions.

Thanks for reading - Aron.

It sounds like a missing master file to me.

Essentially, each esp is a record of changes made to its "master file". So if the master file sets an NPCs location to X, the esp may contain a record to move that NPC to Y.

However, if you do not have the master file installed, then there is no NPC. This means that when the esp is loaded, it will not be able to move that NPC, because it doesnt exist. The game exits to prevent any internal chaos if it cant find the master file.

Wrye bash really helps when it comes to master files. I use the steam version and I got Wrye bash to work for me. Cant remember the installation process, but I definitely did not move my oblivion directory out of Program Files. I highly recommend you take the time to get it working, because it helps solve so many problems.

With something as big as FCOM, something is bound to go wrong. I got my game to run with it, only to find that it was crashing my game whenever I entered the waterfront. From what I hear though, it's great if you can get it to work, so good luck if you keep trying ;)

RE : WarRatsG

I've taken advice from the offical TES forum and installing it in segments as the FCOM : Convergence thread suggests.

I've gotten up to

"5.0 Fransceso's Leveled Creatures Item BAIN Installer "

Now I have the issue of finding BAIN to cope with. Yay(!) (If any of you fancy helping, click the link.)
