agony4
So I made a Sorting mod back in March and have been updating continuously to make other mods compatible with it so they don't "ruin" the sorting. Anyway, I have added quite a few mods (28 i think) and am still adding so I have been requested to put them all in one esp. Now I've already decided that in order to do this successfully I can only combine mods that add their own items instead of overwriting the vanilla files.... like I wouldn't be able to use complete crafting overhaul. My question is this. Some mods, for example Isilmeriel's LOTR Weapons, add their own weapons which is great, I can merge them with TesVSnip (or if there is an easier way I'm open to suggestions), however, it also changes a couple of the vanilla weapons as well. Don't know what the changes are, never made a difference to me. I just change the name to sort properly. So will the mod still work properly if I don't copy the vanilla weapons over? I don't think that there would be a tie to those weapons, but I am certainly not a CK guru either. If two mods both alter the standard Daedric Bow for example, one mod would obviously overwrite the other in the merge, so the question is would that affect the bows they added and make them not work. Just wanted to ask before I spent all that time trying to make my Ultimate file. Don't think it would be an issue, but I'd like your views. I was also hoping to get my mod a little more exposure here as well as I've spent countless hours working on it and its still kinda sitting in a dark corner somewhere so I was hoping to shine a flashlight on it :0) It's called Agony's Sorting Frenzy and you can find it here http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13716/ if you wanted to check it out. I'm always open to suggestions and requests if you like it and want a mod made compatible. Thanks in advance for any help!
David Brasher
TESVSnip has been outlawed and mainsteam modders will not upload mods that were constructed with it. TESVSnip breaks the mods that it touches on a seemingly random basis (although an expert on the subject could probably explain exactly which types of edits break the mods.) TESVSnip used to work okay, but it is incompatible with Skyrim 1.5+ or thereabouts, and most people update Skyrim instead of using a really old version. There seems to be no way to revert to an old version of Skyrim for playing TESVSnip mods. There is currently no TES4Gecko for Skyrim. There is just Version Control, and it is not a happy friendly kind of program. In a complex merge, you may have to do a lot of stuff manually in the CK afterward. Like you may find a way to quickly auto-merge a lot of the content, but then you may have to go in with the CK and fix the places where the wrong mod won the conflict. agony4
I hadn't realized that it had been outlawed.... the only thing i've ever used it for was to delete unedited files from a finished conversion to my mod, which in itself only changes file names. I then reloaded it in the CK to fix the form header. So there is nothing complex about what I did. When merging to create the ultimate file I simply copied the NEW items over to the main esp. So I didn't actually copy over any existing files when merging. I hope it works ok, I got some people testing it now so I guess we'll see. If not then back to the drawing board I guess.... I may have to do it the loooong way... Edited September 19, 2012 by agony4
