Dullahan Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Hello everyone.. I seem to have trouble starting a new game. Currently, I have the game patched to the latest version. I do not have Shivering Isles installed. I do not have any modifications installed. To install this game, I had to copy the files from the actual disk and paste them into an 'Oblivion' folder, due to datacab errors whilst attempting to install via disk. This is the first time I've had this problem, and it's annoying as hell. What's happening is, is that it loads fine. But when I go to 'start new game', it freezes, and I have no choice but to control/alt/delete out of it to shut it down. Is this a common problem? If so, any tips or a work-around? Thanks.
dezdimona Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 when you un-installed some files were left behind. try this then re-install To fix things up first try running the Setup.exe from the DVD (place the DVD in - exit the autorun and use explorer to find the setup.exe file and run it - this will sometimes work) If that does not work then follow this Manual Uninstall Guide (though you have done some portions already so just skip those steps) - Doing that will remove the program completely including the registry entries and then you should be able to install as usual.
maYuYang Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 I am not exactly sure, but once I by accident tried to start the game without disc. Well, the game started properly, but in the start menu, I couldn't make any choice(except for options). Gosh, it took me some time untill I realized that the disc wasn't in the drive. If I understood it right, you have a broken disc, right? It might be that the game won't start, because it can't find teh disc. You should contact Beth, they will probably exchange it with a working disc.
bben46 Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Oblivion has problems with not having the original disk in. Some programs that allow you to run without the disk will cause problems also.
Dullahan Posted October 19, 2008 Author Posted October 19, 2008 The disk not being in the drive isn't the problem. I've overcame both before. However, the uninstalltion had a bit of a problem -- When I tried to the first time, it said something about Setup not being able to unistall the game from the Add-Remove programme files. And then gave me this code or something. Might this have something to do with it?
