fjbarton59
hello i created a trapdoor in the alchemy lab of breezehome, which takes you to a basement. That works fine. I decided to make it locked and you need to buy the key of the steward. I found the housepurchase quest and the dialogue related to it especially the decorations section where you can by the alchemy lab etc and i copied one of them and modded it so it points to a script which currently just brings up an hello world dialog for debugging purposes. Howver the text i put in for the title.. "trap door key please" never shows up in the options. I looked and can't see anything out of place therefore i have missed something very obvious or very discreet. I even tried recompiling all. Does anyone know if there's a way to debug this? Thanks. David Brasher
The current Skyrim update breaks custom quest dialog and it often fails to appear. Hopefully Bethesda will fix Skyrim. Often people can get custom dialog to show up by installing a mod, loading the savegame which will be used to play it, saving the game, exiting, loading, and then finally actually playing. This will often make the dialog show up. It is like the game lags and it requires two tries before it notices that there is new dialog it is supposed to be using. On a more banal level, be sure that the conditions used for your dialog are correct. Be sure your quest conditions are correct. Be sure the quest is running when you think it is. Be sure quest priority is high enough.

QaxeIsKaze
I'm having dialogue troubles too, but not with the steward. It's with a custom npc.For me, restarting the game brought up the first line of the npc's dialogue only. The quest starts after that, Edited November 22, 2012 by Ahondara
QaxeIsKaze
I apologize, I think I misunderstood the original question. My issue was related to a custom npc not the steward. That's probably a whole different issue. Just in case though, there is a way to start a given quest before actually talking to an npc which involves using a trigger box. In my case, it worked great and the npc offered up the appropriate dialogue. http://www.theengineeringguild.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=771:skyrim-quest-start-of-game-bug-fix&catid=20&Itemid=193 Again, sorry if I jumped the gun on this one.
