hughythomas
Hi guys, I felt compelled to post this as I was constantly trying to find the answer to my CTDs within Skyrim. I literally tried everything - uninstalling mods, sorting the mod load order (with BOSS & manually), Papyrus debugging etc. I now have my game running 100% stable (as in I can play it for a 3 hour session with no crashes) and I am running just as many mods as I was before... The secret? In my case, it was the GRAPHICS CARD OVERHEATING. Do not be so quick to disregard this point as my Papyrus was pulling up all sorts of errors resulting in the VM freezing which would lead me down the road of troubleshooting mods when in reality the problem was with my system. Since moving my rig into a new case (Bitfenix Prodigy) my Skyrim has been totally crash-free. The previous Lian Li case I had was not keeping my graphics card cool and I can honestly say I didn't even CONSIDER that it was my hardware. Let this be a lesson to everyone - use some 3rd party software to monitor your graphics card temps. I personally use MSI Afterburner and my 7850 was hitting 92c easily within 5 minutes of playing skyrim and this would result in random CTDs. Now, it never goes above 70c and I am tempted to put some watercooling on it to really seal the deal. I do however have a fantastic install of Skyrim that never crashes (and I really do mean NEVER crashes) thanks to moving to a better case. Thought I'd post this as I'm sure there will be others in the same boat as me and I want you to avoid the frustration I went through! Tom
