Mod Removal, will this break my game?

I have No Helmet Hack 1.6 installed, but I want to remove it. When I do, and load my save it tells me it might corrupt the game, is this likely? Is there a way to get the mod uninstalled and not ruin my save? I want to use a different no helmet mod that simply unequips the helmets when not in combat.

Thanks

The 'this might corrupt the game' warning (or 'force-load warning') is one that pops up the first time a save is loaded after uninstalling a DAzip mod. It can usually be ignored, though it should be taken seriously if the removed mod (or mods) added quests, areas, or altered gameplay significantly, as with a combat overhaul.

To safely remove the no-helmet hack, first 're-equip'/restore the visuals on an equipped helmets, for both player character and any companion NPCs. Save in a new slot, and exit the game. Uninstall the mod. Re-load the game, and check that helmets are working normally, as in the vanilla game. Save again, in a new slot, to create a 'clean save'. Now install the new no-helmet mod.

The only mod I've ever 'used-then-removed' which then caused a saved game to break was "Improved Atmosphere". I know it's a wonderful mod but sorry, it conflicts with too many other mods I really like. (Glad I'd only played a few hours with it installed before I realized there was a major conflict and removed it. I had to roll back to a 'pre-installation' save.)

I concur, Thandal... most mods can be removed and installed mid-game with no deleterious effects.

My horror stories are surprisingly few: Combat Tweaks and the Nude Variety mod broke two of my saves when uninstalled mid-game. My worst experience, though, was the time the quest journal became non-functional when I uninstalled a quest mod after finding the content not to my liking.

Some other mods that can have game-breaking effects if not removed cleanly/properly are Extra Dog Slot, Hide Helm, and Hide Armor.... Dog can die permanently, 'hidden' armour slots can become unusable, that sort of thing. And mods that significantly alter plot-flags can be game breaking if either added or removed mid-game. (An example would be 'Alistair's Revised Romance'.)

Hi, Integrater, you shouldn't have any trouble unless they are mods like the ones Sky mentioned. I've forced more than a few loads that contained items that I created in early mods that I botched (I'm new to modding) with no ill effects & removed downloaded mods midway through a play through w/o any trouble so far. Good luck!
