Terrible Game

Recommended Posts

This is such a horrible RPG and game in general. Can't believe the hype around it. Just as bad and overrated as the first one. I really tried to like it but I just can't. Here are my major gripes with this POS.

The combat is HORRIBLE. What are you guys smoking to think its actually good?

First, fighting single enemies is a joke. Just rapidly spam the attack button. Geralt's attacks interrupt the opponent's and thus they can never ever attack back. The exception is shielded humans.

Second the parrying is useless. It doesn't block 100% of the damage and shares a meter with spells, that is the most batshit backwards design flaw I'eve encountered in a video game. It should block all damage, have unlimited use and instead require timing. In good combat games like Blade of Darkness (2001) you can't just hold the parry when you are using a 2 handed. It must be precisely timed, but you are rewarded by taking 0 damage. Only a shield can be held in parry before an attack in reality.

Third problem here is that you take so much damage from the back that sword fighting becomes too dangerous and ineffective. You may as well avoid it all together and just spam roll. Which is the next stupid ass thing. Why the f*** can you roll? What is this s***, Zelda? Rolling would be the worst thing to do next to just stabbing yourself in the face during a fight. But you are forced to use it since parrying is so pathetic and underpowered. Fights with mobs have Geralt rolling on the floor like an animal. Its far too easy to pull off and you can demolish mobs by just rolling + attacking, youll never take damage.

Fourth combat error is the the fact that your character is so much faster than everyone else. Enemies can't catch you making it piss easy to spam spells and other ranged attacks. Kiting is a sure path to victory here.

Next is the potion system. Its completely and utterly worthless. BOD and even the first Witcher you can drink potions on the fly, why not here? I have to be out of combat and initiate meditation? HOW f***ing DUMB. The potions don't last long enough anyways. Alechemy is totally screwed.

Then there is the blade oils. You can apply them whenever but the problem is that they are meant for long term. They have a long duration so if you choose the incorrect one you outta luck. The whole system is rather dumb and nonstrategic. Gee what am I gonna use against spiders? Arachnophage oil! And for necrophages? Why necrophage oil! So much thought involved! And what if after appyling one type of oil I run into a totally different mob?

Last but not least is the idiotic trap/bomb system. First why the hell are there bombs in this game? They discovered explosives but didn't have the brains to put them to use? s*** in real life the Chinese were inventing weapons based on black powder soon after creating fireworks. I was laughing when they used axes to chop the gate down. Doesn't the King have any f***ing bombs? Why does only Geralt have them, no one else is smart enough? Anyways they are overpowered as s*** in combat. Just throw one and done. The wounded survivors can be picked off be rolling around and attacking. The traps are as useful as the potions, meaning not at all. You never have time to deploy them as mobs just swam your ass and you have to set them up in real time. Better to just roll, spam spells, throw bombs,

Oh and one more thing. Enemies all have these little comport zones. So if they get out of bounds they run back like little sissies. Its so easy to exploit and takes away from the immersion. I recall hitting a human soldier in the back several times as he ran back after crossing the magical line that defined his zone. Most RPGs have done away with this outdated bulls***, why not the Witcher 2?

Well thats it for the shitty batshit combat. Next is the game world. The regions are so poorly designed. Just narrow passage ways and small little biomes where creatures pop out of the ground then retreat as soon as you leave. It feels claustrophobic. The mountain area is particularly bad. Its like you are a lost traveler asking for directions.

The game itself is short as f***. What a pathetic RPG. Prologue, chapter 1, chapter 2, epilogue. Yes I call it epilogue not chapter 3 becuase thats what it really is. Whats the point of investing time into it if it will just abruptly end anyways? Collect loot, build you character, fight some bosses, just when you are getting into it.....GAME f***ing OVER. You've just wasted time playing the Crapper 2. Oh and whats that there is an alternate region in chapter 2. Well whoopdy f***ing do. I don't want to play through the intro and chapter 1 again just to experience the whole game, that is bad design. They should've made it 3 chapters all in one go like a proper RPG. Imagine playing an Elder Scrolls game where the game is divide into 2 islands and you can only pick one for a single play through. I am alone to think its more fun to experience everything in one go?

MY SCORE OF THE WITCHER 2:

Well that concludes up my rant and explains why I hate this terrible game. What are your thoughts?

Most of what you are describing as bad things are only bad because they doesn't fit your taste.

The combat probably isn't the best, but it isn't as bad you make it sound either.

It might not have the awesomly choreographed combos of Darksiders 2,or be as solid and heavy as in Dark Souls, but at least it has a variety of moves, and there is a reason to learn how to use them well, because the game has some challenge. So yeah,if you are fighting like 5 enemies at the same time and they have you surrounded, you will have to evade,or else you will die, because your character can only block in one direction. I thought that this was reasonable to happen. You see this game is more dependent on the player's skills than the character's stats. Its combat is more like Dark Souls where you have to learn the behaviors of your enemies and do the right moves at the right time, unlike Skyrim's combat where the most important factor is your player's level and assigned perks and as long as you have lots of HP you can just storm enemy strongholds and spam the attack button to the enemies one by one while the rest are fighting you and still survive.

Not every RPG has to be like another one.

There are some bad implemented things in the Witcher 2,and I agree that it has its faults and it's not a perfect game, but I disagree with you on what should be changed and what not. You see YOU might not like the combat system but that's more a matter of taste,it doesn't mean necessarily that it's faulted.

The things that this game does wrong are 2 IMO: One is the user interface and inventory/menu. Its kinda confusing. Of course the game comes with the thickest and most heavy instructions booklet I ever seen coming with a game, and maybe everything I needed was written in it,but didn't spent the time to read all of it. A more streamlined inventory/menu design would be nice. Another thing that is not quite where it should be in this game is the directing method. The way the game helps you and directs you where to go next for your next objective. And I say that because I got lost a couple of times, and was wandering aimlessly in its huge areas for several minutes.

Now about your last point criticizing that the game offers players choices and you even get to travel to different areas depending on your choice... You say that this is a bad thing, and that Elder Scrolls games aren't like that, and that you like to do everything in one playthrough. Really ? Well in Skyrim you can't join the Stormcloacks and the Imperial Legion at the same time either. Neither in Dawnguard you can join both the Vampires and the Dawnguard. When there are two opposing factions on war and you join one, well (hello!) after you join one the other one will fight you! Welcome to the world where decisions have consequences. I mean what, you sided with the humans and slaughtered the Elf population to genocide, and then you want to join the few elf survivors (if any) that you didn't killed to fight with them against the humans that you just fought with ? And not only in Skyrim you can't do everything in a single playthrough, but as you go from older to an even older Elder Scrolls game, the consequences of your actions and the things you couldn't do in a single playthrough get even more. There is actually a lot of people complaining in the internet about lack of player choice in Skyrim, and player's choice was the main selling point of Mass Effect. And you say Witcher 2 is horrible because it just implemented player's choice (a feature generally conceived positive) arguably the best way recent games have done it,by not only changing the way the NPCs react to you,but even unlocking you new areas and missions and items and stuff ?

I see you list a number of things of the game as it's bad points, and calling the game horrible for that, even if the things you blame aren't necessarily broken, but just not the ones you like most.

But even if all of the things you describe in your post where indeed bad points of the game, you are still biased. I didn't see you writing about what the game does right,so what happened did a cat ate your fingers ? What about its awesome graphics, voice overs, the good written story, the well developed characters of NPCs,the beautiful art design, and the lack of censorship in that game ?

Witcher 2 is not the best RPG ever, but in no way its a horrible game.

Many of the things you claim are bad and break the game, are considered positive by other players and praise CDPROJECTRED for including them.

Just mature up a little and realize that not everyone shares the same tastes with another, and thus not everything has to be made according to YOUR tastes.

There are people who have different tastes than yours, and they deserve too games that fit their tastes as you do.

No offence or irony intended.

The only thing i hate on this game is alchemy system. Why the hell do you need to meditate just to drink a 4 min potion? I am guessing the one who made this idea are freaking hardcore fanboys. Some said potions are bit OP in Witcher now they freaking limit it to the max.

Seriously all the games i played have been destroyed because they freaking followed the fanboy idea. Like freaking Mass Effect, Dragon age and other games i played.

Gotta agreed with enemies they don't use bombs, throwing dagger and traps to kill you but all the games are the same thing. Like in GTA why the hell cops shooting me like I am freaking wearing bullet proof armor and i can kill them in 3 shot.

Also comparing it to Elder Scroll is Hypocrisy. Seriously i played Skyrim a lot of times and the beginning is the same thing follow the blue dude or the red dude compared to Witcher there are some consequences like what to do the tower, spare that dude, massacre them, do stealthy, be rambo, do some mumbo thing and etc. Also it is the first time i played Elder scrolls have somewhat different beginning in Oblivion seeing the emperor being killed every time.

Yes chapter 1 and introduction is totally lengthy but at least you could somehow do something to change some consequence compared to following some dude .

I wasnt sold on The Witcher 2 out of the gate.

Huge fan of TW1 so bought TW2 as a pre order and played it to end, but only once

Ive recently gotten back to TW2 after playing other games like SW:TOR and

Well other then The Kayran (which still feels far to scripted and designed for my tastes) TW2 has leap frogged up my list of all time favs.

The story is just so amazingly done

The graphics are nothing short of astounding (for the system requirements)

The adult, non insulting, and NOT childish delivery of the story is a breath of fresh air

And Im now exploring all the different storyline branches available to you in this game.

Im quickly refalling in love with this franchise and am on baited breath waiting on The Witcher 3 as the final installment of the trilogy

Is TW1 still the better game?

Graphics and computer specs and how far they can push the boundaries in 2 aside.

Yes The Witcher 1 is the better game

But both are must play for any true RPG fan imo
