Skolhamarr
Compared to the rest of the Imperial Army, the blades just seem out place. They are the Praetorian Guard, but have very strong far east feel to them. At I would think they keep that follow of Late western Roman armor design throughout the imperial army. I know I am being picky, but they are Praetorian guard......Palace guards look better than the blades do... The lack of an Imperial Citadel, some where on the map is another question. You are at the heart of empire and yet there isnt major military installation? The game need something like the town guards are not cutting it. It does not have real feel with out that element. There is only one mod that comes to mind to take the place of that citadel. Mr_Siika Griffon Fortress. (I may have to make this request) Overall aura a get from the Empire, is not of rome but of the Holy Roman Empire. They are almost of Its getting late, and Ill edit or finish this later :thanks:
XanAlderon
Yeah its really weird if the nords or something attacked Cyrodiil tommorow the legion would only be able to get 40 or so gaurds together. If you went past the gates in the imperial prison there is nothing there! youd think they would have places to train new recrutes! Supposedly most blades operate undercover for the good of the empire, but I haven't found any yet.
dezdimona
Ah the wonders of "Fantasy" games. Being an elite group and sworn to protecting the king and not the empire, opens a myriad of possibility's for said group. The fact that they become monks as they age and or choose, shows the balance of yin and yang. balancing body and mind does indeed have that "Far East" Flavor, but then as a group with a dedicated sole purpose, they would seem out of place. Lack of "fancy" armor would also show dedication to their job of protection, rather than an interest in style Tamriel contains many races, nords-far north, argonians-far south. migration and inter-marriage of races would seem the norm for a fantasy world as is the norm in the real world! bben46
The armor style leads me to think the Blades were originally a mercenary band from some other region hired when an emperor felt he had to worry about the loyalty of his local troops. By bringing in a group of outsiders, with no local ties and sworn directly to the emperor and not to the rest of the government he might feel safer. This was not uncommon in our own history, and there is even a holdover, the Swiss Guards in the Vatican. Over the years the Blades kept their unusual armor and katannas out of tradition, just as today's Swiss Guards (The ones you see, not the real bodyguards) wear their medieval costume and carry halberds. pedantic
I'd rather swing a well balanced Katana than one of the humungous Daedric weapons. I'm not a little chap, but I doubt I could even pick one of those things up IRL.

Ihoe
you know, I found some interesting information such as I might say: 1.cyrodill is blended with different Civilizations of the world, like that legion helmets go back to ancient greece, their armor mostly looks like a Knight's, their name goes back to ancient rome and their Ranking mostly looks like Today's Officer ranking. 2.the story is also Shaped by old stories from ancient empires (Eg. when jagar tharn takes the throne as the emperor because he looked like Uriel, and seals him somewhere Dungeon like, this goes back to a story in ancient Persia.) 3.We Could match blades with Immortals in ancient persia, Immortals were trained from childhood, were highly skilled in all arts of Combat, had a low limited number of men, they were sworn to protect the king, they loved their king with all their heart and were faithful to him, the blades in the game have all these similarities. Pratorian Guards are less similar to blades. and many more, cheers,IE
jaysus
1. -yup the helmet looks like a holpite one.. -ya its a blend of a bunch of civilisations indeed... norse, ancient mediterraen, medieval japan and europe and some other freaky stuff lol -the name? just cause its called imperial doesnt mean it has anything to do with rome... anything can be imperial... the words origin might be latin but im unsure bout that 2. since the devs are westerners i think they had the story of the french king Louis XIV and the guy with the iron mask in mind rather than a persion/sassanid whatever story (any background to this one welcome didnt know of it yet) 3. i dont see any connection to the immortals to be honest... xcept that they are some kind of "elite" unit but then again there are so many elite units everywhere that one has to ask what the elite of the elite would be...btw there were exactly 10k immortals in persia at all times (they used a fixed number for them) thus not so few ;)

I Was Reffering to the legion mate. 2. before king louis XIV, Esmerdis and his Brother Cambyzus were twins, the heirs of cyrus the great. to ensure that people won't follow the rule of esmerdis when he is along the campaign to Egypt, he ordered to create a golden Weaved mask with an iron trim for esmerdis to wear, and he shouldn't have removed the mask while in public. much like the story of "the man in the iron mask" that you referred to. 3.we could say few due to oblivion, because 10,000 men in ancient persia was only a formation. and the number of blades in oblivion, compared to the rest of the Legion Army will be much like 1/20. cheers,IE
