procelyte
So I quite literally know nothing about creating mods or the creation kit. I'm trying to figure out how to create a new helmet from existing vanilla armors. All I want to do is put the horns from the Dragonplate helmet onto the Dawnguard helmet, and then eventually retexture it. Can anybody tell me how to do that, or link me to a tutorial for it? Feel free to treat me like an idiot because I am when it comes to this  Edited August 15, 2019 by procelyte
thumbincubation
Not sure if you're going pure mashup (nifskope, copy/paste and maybe an alpha property to make things invisible) or remodeling, with blender or 3ds max, but here are a few different tutorials which may help you. The first two, I *think*, are hothtrooper44 giving a tutorial about mashups, from immersive armors. It's been a while since I watched them, but the voice seems different. I don't know if they were re-recorded and released by a third party or whatever, but the information should still be pretty helpful to you. Here are a few more from various authors, including one about statics from elianora. Not all of these will deal with skyrim armors, but nifskope is used for fallout armors too. This one, also by elianora, will help you with making parts of your new mashup invisible. It's meant for fallout, but works for Skyrim and SE also. And this last one should help you with retexturing, a bit. Some of the links for GIMP and Nifskope, etc., may be old. May be better off googling for the best place to get them. None should cost you a dime. https://www.creationkit.com/index.php?title=Retexture_Tutorial And here's the basic welcome mat, for creation kit tutorials. There's a link to return to the tutorials hub, where you can find more common job specific tutorials, as well as use the search box to find specialized tutorials, like the one above. https://www.creationkit.com/index.php?title=Category:Getting_Started Hope this helps some. Simple copy & paste, usually. However, if it's all one node/branch (which helmets usually are), then you have to actually modify the mesh in a program like Blender or 3DSMax. The easiest way to tell if something is all one node/branch is to load the mesh (.NIF file) in NifSkope. Click on the piece of armor you want to use. Everything that highlights is a node/branch, everything not highlighted is in a separate one. If you get really lucky and want to move something that's in its own branch, you can just open both helmet meshes side-by-side in NifSkope, copy the branch you need, then paste it into the root branch of the new helmet. If the stars & planets were aligned in your personal horoscope at that moment, that's all there is to it - you can save the new helmet and add it via the Creation Kit. thumbincubation
Agreed, that's exceptionally rare. What I think the OP will end up doing is placing both helmets on top of each other, and rendering most of one invisible.
