Making merchants sell items on display

Hey guys!

After browsing the forum for half an hour without finding a solution, and then looking at all video tutorials on merchants which are around (only to find out that none even mentions this, imo important, issue), I turn to you, fellow modders.

Yesterday, I created a new food vendor. I based her on / made a duplicate of Carlotta. She is the only member of a vendor faction, and also a member of JobMerchantFaction. The chest is assigned properly and the item list is VendorItemsInnkeeper. The chest contains some random food idems and everything, until then, works fine: I can talk and trade with her without any problem.

I also, however, wanted to make the items on display purchasable for the PC (as with Carlotta's market stand, for example). By looking up how this was done on the original NPC (as I mentioned before, funny enough, no tutorial discussed this), I noticed the "Spawn Container" tab. So I added cabbage, potatoes etc. in these wooden shelfs/boxes on the market stand, and linked them to the spawn container. Tested it ingame - and it worked. I could buy the items from her, and they then disappeared from the market stand.

Then I added more items and possibly changed something about the merchant factions etc. (unfortunately I'm not entirely sure of / don't remember exactly every step I made - it was around 2AM already - if I was, of course I wouldn't need to bother you guys), but suddenly it didn't work any more. I can still talk and trade with her, but she won't sell the items on display. In fact, all items on display actually disappear resp. are invisible ingame when I set the merchant container as the "Spawn Container".

I already did a lot of troubleshooting tests, such as all kinds of combinations of item ownership, setting the spawn container, and container ownership, etc etc, but nothing seems to work. So I'm really desparate right now. Does anyone have experience with this and know a proper way to mod this? I'd be very grateful, and thanks a lot in advance to anyone taking their time already :D

I am not sure if this will help but the CK makes a number of backup saves of your .esp while you work - located at Skyrim/Backup.

Try loading previous versions of your .esp where all your changes are working as intended - you are going to have to move the files to the correct locations of course.

Other than that I have no experience with vendors in CK - sorry.

In case anybody has a similar problem and stumbles into this thread, I got it solved now (after taking a hiat on the mod :P). The items on display are owned by the merchant faction and NOT explicitly linked to the nearby merchant chest. Somehow, they are still treated as if they were in the chest, though. Edited by Unhit
