How to change an npc from a MOD to custom race?

Seems I'm stumped on this particular problem, although I'm very close. Hope someone can help

All using CS

Changing an NPC from vanilla Oblivion into a custom race is easy enough (Jensine into a cute elf, for example)

And changing a mod introduced NPC into another vanilla race is fine also

What I'm actually trying to do is change the race of a mod introduced NPC into a custom race

So far I've managed to create duplicates as you would if you didn't select an active file accidentally deleting a mod NPC from the game

Anyone have an ideas or previous experience that would help?

You need to use ESP mastering to do so.

Install Construction Set Extender.

Open the custom race mod and the ESP of the mod you want to alter. If you want to change that esp itself, set it as active, or don't make an active file and you'll end up with a mergeable patch.

Find the NPC you want, and from the race dropdown box, the custom race will be selectable. Just change the race, adjust hair/eyes/face as necessary, save and exit.

I literally do this all the time.

Thank you very muchly. However, I think I'm creating more work for myself as it's failing to initialise and just coming up with the old CS

Go into your Data folder, find the "OBSE Loader", right click on it, select properties, and under "Compatibility" check "Run as Administrator". Do the same to the TESConstruction Set EXE file.

Getting CSE working will make your life a bajillion times easier in the long run. It is a massive, MASSIVE improvement over the vanilla CS.

It sounds like you have already solved your issue, but there is a work-around for that where you don't have to keep making master files (Oblivion gets real sticky with too many master files loading up). If you ever run into a similar issue let me know and I will be glad to help.
