Followers Combat Tweak

Ok, I've been using follower mods for a long time now, UFO most notably combined with several game difficulty increasing mods along with master difficulty, to give a challenging experience which was achieved to the point where keeping a follower or two at all times was necessary for any big fight, now my predicament is that while I cannot afford to set my followers to unessential (lest they die instantly), using the alternative and setting them to essential makes the fights far less of a challenge as it often goes, the followers will soak up the first few hits, their health drops dramatically but there they are and as a result I get very little attention of my enemies where as my follower continue to soak up damage unscathed (even when they fall to their knees, they'll often get back up and heal almost instantly).

 

..So, would it be possible to make it so once a follower's health has been depleted in battle they would drop to their knees and be unable to get back up until the end of the battle? That way I figure it would be even much more realistic, as when they take lethal damage and are on the brink of death it doesn't make sense for them to get back in tip top shape on the spot, they'd have to wait for the battle to end in order to regather and on the other hand, fairer battle.

 

P.S if such mod already includes this feature, then my apologies but I've searched thoroughly and found no such thing.

I had thought there was a status between "essential" and "not essential", called "protected." Followers can still die when on their knees, although enemies will prioritize fighting other people instead (such as the Dovahkin). AoE attacks and player attacks can kill them in this state as well. Is this the status you refer to as "not essential"? Or does UFO not offer three statuses for follower importance?

I know this isn't what you were looking for and I'm not trying to hijack but I think it would be awesome if followers acted more like pawns from Dragons Dogma, atleast with the whole "death" thing. When knocked down you have to help them up within a certain timeframe or they die but in DD you can always revive them afterwards as they're not actually constricted to the laws of our realm and just get sent back to the rift.

 

Anyway I think something similar to that would be very cool.
