Very strange glitch with Mystic Emporium

THe problem with diagnosing this is I didn't even step a foot into Calindil's Mystic Emporium until I had turned on close to 60 mods. So I'm not sure which one could be doing this, and I've been slowly using the process of elimination... but nothing seems to work.

Here's the weirdness:

Whenever I open up the door to the Mystic Emporium, I fall into a black abyss with nothing but a few torches floating in space, Calindil (sometimes Aurolin or whatever her name is... probably way off) constantly falling/rising in place, some chests and finally a singularly suspicious green-glass helmet (which I can only see if I turn off clipping and rise up 4 floors) just sitting there in dead space.

It's like the main characters, containers and lighting are still there, BUT THE ROOM IS ENTIRELY GONE! I can still talk to Calindil and what's-her-name; can still open the chests... I can even use the door to the basement and the second floor and go to those rooms just fine.

BUT THE MYSTIC EMPORIUM ITSELF IS GONE.

Technically I could still access the area with clipping off, but you can imagine how badly it takes me out of the game, and not to mention how afraid I am of it happening somewhere else. I have already tried loading older saves (much older), but it's still there (or should I say NOT THERE). I have also checked that the room data was still there in the official file by loading it up in the CS.

So first off: has anyone else seen this glitch (even if in another place), and how can I repair it? It's very annoying and I am so afraid of finding another instance of this error.

Here's the main mods I'm using:

- All official Elderscrolls DLC and Shivering Isles

- Unofficial Oblivion Patch

- Operation Optimizer

- Natural Environments

- Mart's Monsters Mod

- Inside Weather (sounds)

- Deadly Reflex 5

- Babs Final

- Mounted Combat

- Soya Hair 4

- MD Eyes

- Light Weapons

- Thieve's Arsenal

- Living Economy

- Adventurer's Gear

- Parallax texturing for: cities, sewers and prisons

- WZ Iventory

- Ryan's special advantages and disadvantages

- SEVERAL "Unique Landscapes" geographical mods (but none in the IC)

- Mage's Guild Portals

- Adventurer's Spells

- Immersive Interface

- Immersive Health

- Primary Needs

I was also using these until I switched them off due to incompatabilities with Natural Environments:

- Lights Out

- Lights

- Sunlit Interiors

- Underwater Invisibility

- Swashbuckler's Set

And these two report conflicts indirectly with the Mystic Emporium through Frostcrag (these are in the form of spells sold by Calindil):

- Decorator Assistant

- Book Placement

This is still not the full list of mods I had on, but these would seem to me to be likely or possible suspects. The two just above I have already switched off and the problem still persists. I have now switched off more than 50% of the mods I had on... to no avail :(

The first rule for modding Oblivion is to never install more than one mod that changes the same thing in the game.

The Mystic Emporium is already changed by the Wizards Tower (Frostcrag Spire) DLC, so it's generally a good idea not to change the Mystic Emporium with a mod.

Sorry to hear that you're having this problem. You might wind up having to uninstall everything and start over with an abbreviated mod list the next time around.

I have Decorator Assistant, Book Placement, and DLC Frostcrag, but no such problems at all.

It looks like you have a dirty mod that "moved" the interior cell of the mystic emporium from it's default position, thus leaving certain objects such as doors, torches, etc... in there original place (now with no room around them, floating in space). If you open up your mods in the CS you can check to see if any of your mods changed the mystic emporium interior world space and find the culprit.

Good luck.

OMG I FOUND IT!

The court finds the defendant, "Book Jackets," guilty of all charges.

I cannot confirm whether I absolutely have the latest version of that mod, but I did get it from the TES Nexus, so it should be. I just don't want to offend the maker of that mod though. However, in my case it did bring back the Mystic Emporium, and this after shutting down 65% of my mods one by one.

The mod in question adds hi-res textures to the book covers of Oblivion. They look great, but I can't afford to have errors like these.

While I actually didn't use the CS to find it (I used Tes4edit) Thanks thomasv for the heads up on a dirty mod! :)

I won't be so confused next time, and from now on I'll be checking every mod before loading it first.

Oh darn. I was thinking of putting that in, too.

Which brings us to a conversation we need to have here on TesNexus: how to repair a dirty mod.

Particularly with house mods, that are often the first foray into modding, there is a lack of "best practices" in their creation.

I've found really irritating usage of unnecessary parenting and such. I can almost never leave a house I download alone, I have to move the furniture, disable some things, etc. I also turn off the collision and look around outside the walls and find all kinds of trash out there, like respawning cupboards, I mean you name it. This is one reason why I'm waiting to create my dream house quest, because I want to actually know what I'm doing rather than Forrest Gumping my way around, so I've been doing some smaller personal and private relz mods to get acclimated. And I always look under the hood of the mods I download.
