Keyboard won't work

Catmagnet ...

I Quote: In my experience cherry keyboards are of general high quality, but the one and only one that rules them all is the IBM Model M dating back to computing stoneage. Nearly indestructable and clickey keys(!)

You adequately described my 'Genius' Keyboard. The logitec ceased to function correctly after I re-assigned the (Options/Controls ...) keys. Sadly I don't have your time, enthusiasm, and dedication.

Out with the old, in with the new, let's get playing again, is my current way of thinking. At least, where only a keyboard is concerned.

Slytovhand ...

I feel for you and wish you every success with your problem. Um ... did you keep a copy of the unadulterated oblivion.ini handy? That usually works for me when I mess up. I just have to fiddle.

Dedication? Well, thank you for that, usually I get called stubborn as a donkey. I just won't brook opposition from a machine i own. It complies or it dies in the process. But while I don't want to diminish your appreciation for your Genius I highly doubt it can compete with http://www.clickykeyboard.com/ I really do. I'll admit that those are absolutely over the top for gaming, but for serious writing there's just nothing that gets even close. For me the difference is about 20% of typing speed, meassured. I treasure mine, it is kept in the one room in the house that's off limits for the cats, connected to my absolutely silenced computer, set up for my writing needs. I spent an average of 60 hours a week typing alone, not including forums, newsgroups and so on, so I humbly insist I got some expertise in that field. Well, let's not get too pedantic about this... *scnr*

Maybe the overall best option is... well, ditch the darn thing and get something simple and unobtrusive. Sorry, I may have been wasting your time here. A keyboard shouldn't need any additional drivers.

Oh, I dunno - you made me laugh when I read this :P

I'll see if tech supp gets back to me about this.

Myrmaad - not obvious - it's usb, not wireless. And besides, I've only had the system about 2 or 3 months. All brand spanking new. Haven't tried another KB yet, only other one I've got is a ps2- about 5 years old.

Pedantic...umm, I've got a copy of an .ini. Not sure when it's from, though. Probably not straight vanilla, cos I was trying to track down CTD's from mods. So, at the moment, I'll be playing NWN2 til I get a response from logitech.

Oh, CM - I'm not quite as prepared as you, though I have keep a seperate folder for all downloads, so it's not too bad to reinstall...

Good Lord Catmagnet .... no way would I ever smash my fist into one of 'those' keyboards

There has to be a weak point in any system and, as i'm not a masochist, i'd rather pummel my keyboard even if i'm the weakest link. Thanks for making me laugh anyways ....

  • 3 weeks later...

Update:

For anyone else who does a search after having this problem (and maybe for those gone before), it's now fixed!!

Yep - all good!

How? I hear you scream foolishly at your monitors?

I uninstalled ZoneAlarm!

I had a copy of the Internet Suite on trial, and it had run out. It didn't want to go back to firewall only, so, as a last resort, I did a complete uninstall of it, and then reinstalled (free version).. and lo and behold... no more OCR Error message - and keyboard works!
