Surfer11May
Windows Experience (WE) 6.8 Sager NP8760 (W870CU) Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-820QM, 1.73-3.06 WE 7.1 Video Card: nVidia GeForce GTX 280M 1,024MB WE 6.8 Windows 7 Home P 64-bit, 6 GB RAM, INTEL SSD SA2CW This is what I have now. Should I upgrade? The video card can only be upgraded to GTX 285M, not a big difference. The Processor could be upgraded to Extreme. If only the Processor is upgraded, will my Skyrim performance change that much? The rest of my system is at WE 7.5 Thanks
Erik005
Can you even buy these processors and graphics card? Laptop processors and graphics card are very expensive and often not worth the money. There are two extreme editions I don't think either will make much difference, the same goes for the graphics cards. Erik005
Well you are going to fall of your chair when you see the price of those processors. There is no guarantee that the processor will work, laptop bios's are usually very restricted.
Surfer11May
Ok, I fell off my chair but would like to know which components affect Skyrim performance the most. Is it any benefit to have a medium graphics card and a screaming cpu? According to Windows Experience, my graphics card and CPU are the weak links now. Would upgrading the CPU alone be any help, and a lot of help for the price? Sager Tech says the bios is ok for that CPU.
FMod
There's no point. These upgrade options are worthless. They will bring a few % of performance at most.Better get a desktop if you want to play at full power.
Surfer11May
Ya, may be time for a new computer. 4 years at full power was not a bad run though. Skyrim HD - 2K Textures - Skyrim HD v1_5 FUL plus 96 other mods did me in. Running ahead looks fine but panning form side to side looks a little blurry. Thanks for the input. Surfer11May
Just a follow-up: Got my old computer working fine on high settings but wanted more. New computer. Skyrim is looking great in 3D. Looks like nVIDIA got it right this time with nVIDIA 3D Vision. Full round objects and not just the layered effect of older versions of 3D. Hard to demonstrate on a 2D screen, like trying to demonstrate color on a B&W screen. Much easier to forget that the screen is there. Some objects appear in front of the screen and far behind the screen. 2 to 5 second loading times, even with 3D ENB on ultra settings. Limited FPS to 60 and running smooth in all areas. Have the option to add a second 4GB 680M later if needed. Now I am happy to deal with new problems like encouraging ENB to make their latest releases compatible with 3D.
