Story Driven companion

Hi Modding community,

While I appreciate the efforts of the modding community in making companions/followers most of these really are very shallow and mostly only eye candy.

I'd love to see a mod for a follower with some more substance, character and especially dialogue and story. Preferably it would be voiced.

A character who doesn't always aim to please you and simply follows and shoots things you point at for no reason whatsoever. Someone who actually engages you in dialogue and not only waits till you try to find out more about them but who activly participates in the relationship.

I guess what I'm asking for is something with substance...

Companion Ria makes a start at this but in the end unfortunately it's only a reactive character and not an active one.

Maybe some of you remember Ruined Tale from Oblivion. That was a companion with a story and background. If you don't know it check out the Oblivion mod for it http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/3027

Better would be a group of companions who interact much like the characters in Dragon Age. I don't know how long I just stood in Dragon Age listening to the banter of various fellows and the comic dialogue they had but I understand that that's a bit difficult.

Cheers,

G.

There are actually a significant number in various stages of development, aside from Ria.

Cerwiden began life as a purely functional addition but has gained a voice and has been adding story elements. Not totally lore-friendly to my eyes, but a very well-made and popular mod.

Atvir Dres is voiced and very lore-oriented, and the maker has ambitious plans in terms of Atvir having a mind of his own.

Interesting NPCs is an amazing, ever-expanding project which among other things adds several voiced followers who will comment on various game situations.

For followers that have amusing banter between themselves, an impressive project is Dovahkriid Grenzganger--take a look at the video tab.

Fair Khajiit is still in early stages and is as yet unvoiced, but it seems like a cool project that aims to add an interesting and unique character.

If you're interested in a more "adult" take on quest-driven followers, there's the Lylvieve Sisters mod.

The Viconia follower mod is being ported from Oblivion. And there's no link yet, but the modder behind the well-known Vilja companion mod for Oblivion has been working on a similar project for Skyrim, and she's said the first version will be released soon.

Finally, my own Aela the Huntress mod takes a different approach from all these. Rather than creating a new follower, I'm expanding on an existing Skyrim follower who I thought was interesting--in large part because she had her own opinions, which I'm trying to stay "true" to. She's only partially voiced at the moment, but that will change; and if you like Ruined Tail-style philosophical dialogue, that's the kind of thing I'm going for.

A number of us have discussed the idea of banters between our followers--we're all generally in favor of it, it's just a matter of getting the core parts of our own work done, first. But it'll happen, I'm sure.

Thanks for the information and taking the time to write it down, I've actually already installed your MOD for Alea but haven't gone through the quest yet to get her. It's one which really sounded most interesting to me so far.

I've got Cerwiden as well but she's not very interactive but a good start.

I'm really happy to hear of the other ones though so thank you for the information and also thank you for the work you've done in making interaction in Skyrim more fun !!

I guess I just have to be a bit more patient :)
