actually the terror birds are where I got the idea from now just imagine raiders with ak's and hunting rifles riding them.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong I love the idea, especially for mounts for the player.

It's just, in some things, we are sadly limited. Besides learning animation in blender, I'd really like to know how the other TES games (specifically oblivion) create mounts and if it can be used instead of illyisms Rideable script (assuming they are not the basically the same). The script is serviceable, but It seems more buggy than skyrim's mounts (and therefore I suspect Oblivion's mounts). Just dont' know if that code is in the fallout engine.

Maybe it's time I did some skulking around the skyrim/oblivion forums.

Definitely like the idea of the net still existing in some places, especially as a sort of VR world ala Tron/Matrix/Shadowrun. Of course imagine the fun of finding out that the friend you made while in VR is actually the A.I. controlling some aspect of the place you are living in, like the foodmatic or environmental controls, by the same token the guy you pissed off being the VR avatar of a securitybot.

Btw I always had the thought that Matrix was inspired by some dudes Shadowrun campaign, or some similar game, the elements you mentioned as doing the Matrix proud would fit just as well or better in Shadowrun: Katanas, the Japanese controled everything and had bled into every culture to the point where all warriors are referred to a samurai; the outfits, the cyberpunk look of all that leather/PVC/bodysuits was established more firmly as the staple look in Shadowrun than anywhere else.

Yeah definitely. Ran through the article a few times, it's what got me wondering if actorParent & entryPoint are recognized in the fallout engines. I'll ask about in the forums when I get a little spare time. But thanks for the comment, none the less.

yeah good story plots on the AI angle.

Another could be "walled gardens" where private intranets are the VR paradises of the rich and elite, places of great beauty. Arcologies (whether floating on the ocean or walking on enormous mechanical legs) would have these virtual oasis of luxurious beauty and splendor. They may have massive firewalls or even be disconnected from the net most of the time (if not completely), but any system can be hacked, escpecially if the player can get into the city/arcology and gain entrance from within the intranet. These will let us put together some no limit mini worlds.

They are also an angle I'd like to go with for addiction (better I think than say drugs...too common), taking many of the elder/ancients out of the real world to be immersed in decadence. They don't care what happens outside as long as their own little paradises are fine. Especially if they have health problems and a decrepid body they can by young and strong again in their VR. I figure elder/ancient gene therapy will probably allow life extension to 200ish, maybe 300 ish or more with a life support system like house's. So many of them could be very old (depending on when we set the date), but actual survivors of the cataclysm.

And of course we can have intranets that hold very valuable information or allow access that isn't possible from outside a facility. Especially for gov or military complexes, but also big corps which could potentially rival the first two entities.

the place you are living in, like the foodmatic or environmental controls, by the same token the guy you pissed off being the VR avatar of a securitybot.

Yeah definitively, I could see a lot of plots generated from that. So it could be a abandoned arcology still functioning exactly as the day it was made......a sci-fi ghost town. All the way to compromising the systems of a functioning arcology to destroy a whole population of ancients.

I remember hearing somewhere it was anime, but I think your right because in a sense anime of the cyberpunk genre like ghost in teh machine must have influenced shadowrun.

Yeah that's what I'd like to see. I mean I am torn because I get a kick out of the 70's & 80's (at least that's what it looks like to me) sci-fi of the gamma world tech. I don't have the 2010 edition, which references Omega tech, that may be much more modern. I'll do some research on it.

But the cyberpunk genre has so much to offer. Corps that rule on the scale of governments, hackers jacking their brain right into the net, heavy cyber body modifications and other extremely advanced tech alongside a low life, bleak, dystopian future. Not to mention the style and visuals. One thing that stands out is the cyberpunk genre is more realistic. A strange thing to say for what we're putting together, but if we can spin everything we make as being somewhat plausible I think that will go a long way for the player. Plus I think with all the modern 20th century stuff (weapons, attire etc) we have on nexus we may have hte resources to pull it off.

On a related note what should the aploclyps/cataclysm be. There are so many. War, giant asteroid, deadly engineered virus escapes, LHC (or other science project) creates singularity (or egress/exit to other dimensions), the list goes on and on.

Also I think I have a balance for the (more mechanical) android player characters. We start them out with hugely crippled "people skills" to balance their combat/physical advantages. So things like charisma and barter will be rock bottom for them. That will reflect in quest dialog choices all the way to simply buying a meal. I'm thinking these for the standard gamma world androids that are actually robots. We can (should) also have blade runner androids, ie skinjobs. Not having limitations for existing lore, I think they will both fit in with what were working on here.

Also forgot to mention we have our first mutant animal race/genetic cosmetically enhanced human thanks to Simone00

And the race can be tweaked to represent other animals themes as well.

I'm kind of thinking the race above (along with other animal derivatives we make) should be genetic cosmetics produced by large civilian biotech corporations (or conglomerations) catering to a decadent future population of well to do's. The same people that in our world are into furries, radical body sculpting, or get plastic surgery over and over again.

I'm thinking we can use it as a base for mutant animal's as well, but making much more radical changes to the body and face. That way, the mutant animals don't just look like humans with a few superficial animal details like skin color and a tail. Instead we make them look like actual biped animals (to the best of our modeling ability).

I'm also going to request permission from EmeraldReign his The Legacy of X13 - An Armor Overhaul, it has a very modern sci-fi look that reminds me of the Crysis game's suit;

I think that will fit in well with a more cyberpunk theme. But we can still have areas that have the retro, traditional gamma world power armors as well.

As far as I know from when I searched around, the FO engines (3 and NV) recognize entrypoint but not Bip02 or actorparent nodes. Now, I could be wrong, it's just what I've read.

So I figure an early gene tech would be myostatin suppression (might even be possible through drugs as opposed to genetic retro virus). Myostatin neutralization will results in dramatically enhanced muscle mass. Here is a pic of a whippet (Wendy) with the defunct gene;

The inset pic shows her compared to a normal whippet.

For initial player creation this would be a trait (might require 2 for game balacne). Giving females 9 STR and males 10. It might help to level the playing field against mutants, mutant animals & android player characters, although it's also possible it might arise naturally (relatively speaking) among mutant races as well.....but it would be very, very rare (just a npc or two, most likely).

Since it's a relatively easy gene tech (we can almost produce it at our tech level) I figure a biocorp rushed it to market, copyrighted it and charged a small fortune for it. That means some viral capsules are still in the wasteland, but it is very rare. so players can acquire it in later adventures just like any genetic upgrade.

We have permission to use zomb_killer's Muscle Girl Project - NV

Here is a pic;

Hopefully we can find a similar project for males, if not we're going to have to figure out a plausible explanation (migrated to x chromosone, ie sex-linked) until we can locate male meshes.

I don't know if we will get permission for the The Legacy of X13 - An Armor Overhaul, but without it, I'll probably attempt my own re-texture. I was thinking of using animated textures in a unique(ish) way. You can playforward the texture like an animation, which would swap out a 1024x1024 texture for the next one in line (think of it like a slideshow), and I could (I'm guessing) use it on a glow map.

My idea is that you could have something like crysis where when you have the strength active the glowmap could be swapped out to red (just teh glowing strips).

Or alternately, I could have 3 or 4 glowmap textures, each brighter than the rest and when the armor reaches 75% health the 2nd brightest glow map is swapped in, when 50% the 3rd brightest etc. That way you know the brighter you suit glows the more energy (health) it has.
