Fast travel costs caps

I know there are mods out there that add different modes of fast travel or require you to have self discipline. I don't have the know how to create mods, I've tried looking into it... I can't wrap my brain around anything. I'm hoping someone can make a mod where fast travel costs 100 caps. That's it (hopefully done as easy as said). From A to B, doesn't matter about distance, just one fee of 100 caps for any distance.

I am about to update a mod that enables fast travel between owned settlements in survival and have been considering a fee option for general fast travel. Not a fixed fee, but a rate based on distance and wealth as a travel decelerator.

 

My consideration is who is being paid ? Just taking money for a game mechanic feels empty.

could you tie it to a vertibird somehow, and whatever faction has the vertibird that you call to use for fast travel receives the 'payment'?

Issue is that base game VFT (vertibird fast travel) is unlocked at the earliest after Act 1 reunions + BOS No mercy, which can be quite late in an exploring game. But players can fast travel straight out of the vault (non survival + console + mods).

 

Delaying fast travel until VFT is base game unlocked is just too late to be useful. Enabling on demand VFT early makes no sense ("just woke up in vault with a vertibird uber app on my pipboy") without some sort of pilot enabling quest like in my 4-76 open world.

 

So I struggle with a sensible use case and user experience for "I want to fast travel straight out of the vault, but pay someone caps for that mechanic".

I see. By consideration, I mean more that someone considers making the mod. I have been playing survival mode a lot and have grown tired of some mechanics of it. I really enjoy other modes since I found that after a while, eating, sleeping, drinking, and disease was just a little annoying for me. I play with the Health and Rad overhaul mod on very hard difficulty. I always end up (On any mode) with soo many damn caps, don't know what to do with them. I do like running from a to b for the most part, but there are times where I just want to get there - but I want to be punished for it, which is why I was thinking caps.

Well, my Workshop Utilities mod can enable survival fast travel totally or ONLY between owned workshop settlements as an incentive to take ownership, did that as I dont bother with workshops in most survival scavenging runs.

 

It would be simple to add an option to charge for that. Update coming in the next couple days ... so convince me to take your caps :)

Really? I had no idea. Funny, I use a lot of your mods but I hadn't even seen that workshop one. I use settlements like crazy, love it with your settlement attack system and Sim Settlements. There are mods that make fast travel between just settlements on survival. I also like that your mod has the option to make fast travel available to any location. I am looking to be punished for using fast travel. Also to make managing caps difficult. I increase barter prices, but I find (especially on survival) that I always have loads of caps. I buy shipments, armour, and I sell most drugs and alcohol. Which on survival, there are a ton of drugs I never use since I usually just get the doctors to fix me up. So I sell them and I'm always rich. I was never good at convincing people to do anything. I'll name a cat after you - SKK The Cat! I'll send you a photo with your name on it's collar.

OK cat name is a deal closer, and does not conflict the CreationKit EULA for hire & reward.

 

To make it properly punishing I will make the optional fast travel charge a percentage of owned caps. Tell me why 10% is to0 much.

Hahaha, that's awesome. I'll be sure to send a photo, will take me till the 27th or 28th to hold up my end of the deal though. I work odd and long hours. I have those days off.

 

Personally, I'm good with percentage. But someone may feel the need to cheat the system by just storing their caps somewhere and only carry ten caps on them. Travel for only cap - we don't want them to uber.
