NexusComa
Put out a new mod called ... Enchanted Ship In a Bottle (Player Home) ... Within an hour it was pirated and put on a website in Mainland China. You gotta love it when your mod gets Hijacked and is 20 times more popular on a foreign website than the one you support - under someone else's name.I could have swore I said no posting on other websites. Also the like to download rate vs my post is night and day. I hope that guy enjoys my years of work. His forum page for the mod is 8 pages deep with thank you's. You can't even join the site to report the mod unless you live in Mainland China. :pinch: :pirate: :nuke:  Edited August 26, 2019 by NexusComa
JobVanDam
Did you notify the Nexus admins?
NexusComa
No. I didn't think they would care or be able to do anything about it. The login literally makes you verify you are in Mainland China. You have to log in to report the mod. Also it looks like they are enjoying it and that was pretty much the whole point of creating it. It's the stats he is getting that shocked me the most really. At the moment: 668 downloads with 431 likes and 172 stars (whatever stars mean). Can't seem to see the mod forum page anymore. But the first timeentered the site it was full of thank you's. Maybe I wasn't seeing it right as the site is quite bit different than the Nexus. But I can still see the current stats. For me here: 300 unique 390 total download with 23 likes. Not sure how Mod of the Month works here, but was low key hoping to have a least a shot. Guess I alreadymessed that up by uploading so late in the month anyways. Sure would have been nice to add them stats to the ones I already received here. But that site cut me off fromthem downloads / likes. Maybe that's being presumptuous. It seems you only get one shot at that for about a week or so than your mod fades into the archives of forgottenmods. If it didn't make a mark ... Oh well ... Like I said, looks like they are enjoying it. It could be possible they have no other way to get to these mods here ... I don't know.I really did want it to only be a part of the site I feel has given me so much. I really can't afford to donate. This was kind of my way to show my appreciation to the Nexus.Helping others on the forums isn't going so good. Maybe I just don't know how to articulate myself all to well. Kind of feeling like this whole thing was a bust in that respect.I have mixed emotions over the whole thing. maybe I'm just reading too much into it. A friend told me my mod was on some kind of pirate site and that kind of freaked me out.Actually kind of funny now that I think about it. The ship mod itself started off as a pirate ship in a bottle. I guess it ended up that way too .. lol
maxarturo
I don't think Nexus can do a lot to protect mods from been stolen, you'll just have to stop paying attention and compromise yourself with the fact that is just your hobby and at the end of the day it isn't bringing home the bacone... I notice the same issue when i uploaded my first quest mod about a year ago. After two weeks i had on Nexus just 100 unique downloads, and in chinese & russian sites " my stolen mod " had tens of thousands of downloads... agerweb
Yes, it is very irritating. The only hope we can have is that we make a mod that is so popular that it gets many reviews and it will become obvious even in far away places who the author is. Dream on! maxarturo
Yes, it is very irritating. The only hope we can have is that we make a mod that is so popular that it gets many reviews and it will become obvious even in far away places who the author is. Dream on! Yeap... Or do something similar to what i have done in the mod i'm working.Attach to the most complex scripted part of your mod (like in a complex build puzzle), a " debug notification " showing up for several seconds, informing about the origin of the mod !. You can also put a message box, but this can easily be translated.Instead attaching it to an actual script with condition and been a part of the mod will required from the hijacker to know papyrus and to search for it in order to errase or replace it. If done correctly, even if the hijacker knows papyrus, only you know how you have actually constracted the mod, so he will end up messing everything up, and acquired himself a terrible migraine in the process of trying to make it work correctly... NexusComa
That's truly sad Maxarturo sorry to hear that. When you work on something for years it sure hits hard. This really isn't a hobby for me as thisis what I do in real life. However I get a paycheck for that. Skyrim modding was the start of it all. For that I will always be grateful and to the Nexus. I did put a small notice in the description. Hoping they understand my discontent with downloading from a pirate site vs the Nexus. My payment for my time is seeing others enjoy my work, some comments of their experiences playing it and seeing their pictures. A pirate site takes that all away. It's disheartening ... So few take the time to share. I know the mod is outstanding. I made sure of that. But that is just my option. It's nice to get validation from others for your work. Especially work you did for free for the enjoyment of others. You're probably right Agerweb it's a little late in the game to think a mod could make it's mark now. But dreaming is what created it.I just wish they would leave you alone for the 1st few weeks at least. Can't see why they need to post it on their site when they could justprovide a link. In the end this hurts everyone. I have few more spectacular mods completed. But I refuse to give a pirate revenue.Maxarturo, Took a look at your Desktop Themes. Wish I had seen that when I was putting pictures together for the walls of the ship.I sure would have ask for permission to use a few of them. Really nice shots. These are perfect for desktop theme slide show for me.Good stuff! That just gave me a good ideal. Think I'll add my files to the pictures so you can replace them if you wish. Like I did the sails. maxarturo
If you still want to use them, go ahead !, they are just screenshots !, no actual hard work was put into this, except naming them and waiting a hole day to upload all those files. I'll do one more update + add on to those files which will include your mod too, but after i finish the current mod, i'm so close to finishing it... AT LAST !!...
