Shadowcran
I've been afraid to mess with that Freddie...if only there was a reliable guide on how to do them and just what it is you're doing/changing and specifically how to UNDO them(I'm thinking just simply have another copy of it somewhere else in your system, but am I right)....(hint, hint) There are several very reliable guides, and yes, you save your pristine untouched copy somewhere else, or in the same directory with a unique name, like "Oblivion._inioriginal" I actually compared the tweaks from three guides, read very carefully what each tweak does, to decide if I wanted or needed it, and had made a bakup in advance. I found one on UESP.wiki, and one I could have sworn was linked here by Bben way back in the early summer. There was one other I found by googling. The test for whether it's a good guide: It explains what each tweak does and why you would (or would not) need it. For example I have a dual core system, and it takes a different ini tweak to maximize it's potential with Oblivion then if I had a single processor. Oblivion wasn't designed with dual core technology in mind. On a related note, I noticed someone said something about why Bethesda doesn't support Vista and "that should tell you something"; but the reason why Bethesda doesn't support Vista, is because it was built and released prior to Vista's release. I worked in software technology myself, not only did bethsoft support tell me that's the reason, it's the exact same logic my company used. Any current releases are compatible with latest technology for best practices purposes, but you can't mind-read future technology. Oblivion works just fine on my Vista computer, and not just mine, but many others, so people shouldn't be discouraged from loading Oblivion on Vista. The biggest hurdle is figuring out to turn off UAC. I personally think that should never have shipped with the system, as it's one of Vista's greatest flaws, provides what I believe to be a false sense of security when it is enabled, and security is done better by a good internet security suite, anyway. READ CAREFULLY, Before doing: http://www.tweakguides.com/Oblivion_8.htmlhttp://cycophant.50webs.com/OblivionTweak.htmlhttp://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Tweaking Thanks for the links, Myrmaad. I also agree totally about the UAC feature. Have you noticed the "mojave" experiment ads tricking "real people" into liking Vista. Ever notice all they do is look at it without actually working with it? of course they wouldn't let them do THAT as they wouldn't want to show people putting their fists through the screen or pulling their hair out or bashing Their head into a wall. Right~ Commercials like that--intended to baffle the gullible--really piss me off anyway.
MrCooper2006
Brilliant guide Shadow, well done. This has all the basics (that i can currently think of) you would need for a stress-free setup. Although pretty soon im gonna need you help in Merging some mods using Gecko, i have it but have no idea how to use it. Can you give me an example of FPS increase/loading times etc? I have only about 200 (100-150 active) mods now instead of the past 250+... many are "merged" in Wyre Bash and tagged etc, but wondering if its worth merging most of them together to improve stability/load times. Ive tried not to add anymore mods now as i SEEM to have it perfect... FINALLY. It runs fine, no crashes, not even on exit. I would like to keep it this way but try to improve performace even more if possible. Cheers

I have merged a ton of mods so far with Gecko. A good rule of thumb is not to touch any of the mods associated with the FCOM setup although I'm tempted to combine the latest MMM addons not connected to the regular setup like the boars addon, the Spiders addon and the Ghostly apparition fix, among others. I know how you feel about getting things the way you like it and wanting to keep it that way. I add very little nowadays and I kind of miss the "learning" of trying to get the mods working right, lol. Maybe the old saying, if it ain't broke don't fix it applies here. Of course, we'd have never added mods in the first place with that philosophy.
