bben46
There is no one thing fixes all solution. My first guess would be a background application stealing clock cycles. Lots more info here. http://s1.zetaboards.com/bbenlibrary/topic/4751769/1/#new Optimize your computer before trying to optimize your game - It doesn't matter how well your game is optimized if your computer is still not set up properly. Also, try capping the framerate to a lower rate - start with 30FPS to see if that smooths things. Then move the cap up until it starts to show problems. Forget about getting a higher FPS and concentrate on what looks good to you. FPS is just a number and should not be a goal. Things like judder are more often noticed when the frame rate is making sudden changes. And if the rate stays constant, even at a lower rate it will be much smoother. BTW, the untrained human eye cannot differentiate between frame rates above about 30 to 40 as long as they are constant. What you see as judder is the change in framerate from one FPS to another. The trained eye that can actually differentiate is only with a professional videographer with many years of experience. I have seen many comments that an xbox had better FPS than a PC - when the Xbox game is locked at 30FPS So it runs smoother, but at a lower actual FPS than the PC. Most people cannot tell the difference between interlaced and progressive FPS either. Movies and Standard NTSC TV is 24FPS. PAL is 25FPS More on FPS here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frame_rate

bben46
Typo, :wallbash: yes, NTSC is 30 FPS (rounded) or if you really want to get picky - 29.97002997002997002997002997003 FPS (still rounded as this is an infinitely repeating number) The 24 FPS is the Movie standard FPS that we have lived with for the last 90 years or so. Hopefully more movies will move to a higher fps. BTW, Todd-AO made several movies at 30fps back in the 1950s. They were well received by the public and got several oscars but the higher fps didn't catch on and they dropped back to 24 fps on later movies. (look up the Todd-AO version of Around the World in 80 days)
