No mods are working

No matter what mod I try to load, none of them work. I have made mods of my own to test this, and it seems that none load at all.

I have tested:

  • Races
  • Classes
  • Weapons
  • Clothing
  • Spells
  • Cells (both indoor and outdoor)

Oh, and yes, I am using the latest, correct, official patch, and I have no expansions, and all of these are .esp, none are .omod.

One last thing: I've downloaded a couple of highly-rated mods from here, and they don't work either.

It would help us to troubleshoot if we knew in what way the mods are not working.

First guess, You are running Vista and installed the game in the default location. - Something Bethesda doesn't tell you is mods and other programs have a problem if installed there. The mods will download, and look as if they are installed, you can check them in the data list, but nothing shows up in the game. This is caused by a security feature in Vista called UAC. You also must have Administrator access to install mods.

Best solution, reinstall into a new directory, something like C:\games.

Not as good, but quick and dirty, disable UAC.

If your problem is something entirely different let us know.

The default directory works fine with XP. The only problem I have heard of the is tied to the media center version is the console key (~) not working when the IR is plugged in. - nothing to do with your problem.

I have a set of help files intended for people who are unfamiliar with installing mods that include a small sample mod with no extras (.esp only), doesn't need anything except the base game installed. and a link to 7-zip for unzipping the files. Try that one and see if you can get it to work. Click on the highlighted text below to be taken to the site.

Let me know what happens. PM me if I don't get back within a few minutes.

First, you must be logged into your computer as an Administrator, not a user for mods to work.

If you looked at the picture with the mod, the dagger should appear on the base of the statue across the street from Edgar's Discount Spells staffs in the market district. You don't have to start a new game, you can add that mod at any time.

The file is downloaded as a zipped (compressed) file and needs to be unzipped to work. Using 7-zip to unzip it there will be 3 files. the bben_test_dagger.esp file is the mod. the others are not really needed.

After unzipping, you move the .esp into the data folder in the Oblivion folder.

\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\data

Then when you start oblivion, instead of going directly to 'Play' select 'Data Files'

The bben_test_dagger should be in the list. click on the box on the left of the mod to activate it.

Then go on to 'Play' and check to see if the dagger is there.

Let me know which part of this procedure is not working. Or if there is some part you don't understand.

I already did all of this, I have used mods before (with Morrowind). I loaded your mod, started a new character, used coc to go into Edgar's shop, walked outside, looked all around the statue, and there was no dagger there.
