thunderwolf86
Iv never played WoW or D&D before, skyrim has basically been my introduction to the world of mages/magic users but in games like this i like to play as close to the role as possible. thus far the vanilla game and several mods have been very helpful in creating several different kinds based on the information iv researched about the build, wizards, druids, necromancers, paladins, etc feel pretty close to what has been described but i cant find information about warlock spells/discriptions. i know a few things, that theyre name also means oath breaker, they typically use summoned demons, serve thier devil masters in exchange for power and participate in dark magic. in skyrim that sounds like complete daedric quests, conjure dremora lord (and other mod conjurations), but the dark magic part is very vague. i have the deadly dragons spells mod that gives doom, decay, and curse spells, does that count? or is that more along the lines of illusion magic? there is also the concept of invocations which, (i think, dont quote me on this), might be strictly D&D, but the discriptions on that are also pretty vague/hard to understand and might not even be needed with a skyrim warlock. what would you suggest spell wise? and if there are any other aspects iv missed i wouldnt mind hearing them.thanks. I've played them all. You're on the right path...the left hand path ha. If you want the traditional definition of warlock it is a male witch so IMO alchemy and poison based spells are a perfect fit as well. I could see a witch using illusions also. The demons and curses stuff is more pronounced in WoW and the poisoning/quick spell (invocation) magic is more pronounced in D&D. Neither of those gaming classes are really big on illusion..none in the WoW class and the D&D class is now something like a cleric where it has Pacts with evil entities instead of Domains of worship like the cleric and uses Eldritch blasts instead of free heals. The invocations are at will spells (instead of prepared with rest and memorized a la' traditional D&D spell mechanics) so speedy little low cost quick cast spells if you were to simulate that. Neither of those games invented the term of course and in the time when the actual use of the word was in vogue (Salem Witch Trials) any male suspected of using any magic would have been proclaimed a warlock and then shunned and probably executed. So you have a case to make any kind of evil character using magic that you want and call it a warlock really, but it would be a little more generic and not as satisfying a role IMO. EnglishEtymology From Old English wǣrloga, from wǣr (“promise”) (from Proto-Indo-European *wēr- (“true”); compare veritable) + loga (“liar”), from lēogan ( > English lie); the ending in -ock is from Scottish & Northern English.Pronunciation IPA: /ˈwɔːlɒk/ Noun warlock (plural warlocks) The male equivalent of witch. (obsolete) A traitor or oath-breaker. (obsolete) The Devil, Satan; a demon. (originally Scotland and Northern UK) A man in league with the Devil; a male magic-user, a wizard. flipx2007
Definitely don't forget your familiar. It's hard to consort with your dark entity of choice properly without having it around in spirit form you see.
thunderwolf86
hmm interesting. ok so illusion spells a must have. thats too bad though about the demons and curses, i was kinda looking forward to that, plus it was seemed to suit the build. i have to admit i was kinda hoping to avoid the male witch idea, not because it isnt lore friendly or anything, i just wanted differences between the builds that i akready have and avoid repeats. plus alchemy seems a bit hard to execute without a weapon, are you thinking more along the lines of sneak and pickpocket? illusion spells i do really like and when i first looked into invocation, thats what i thought it meant.so illusion is the main focus, what else would a warlock use?
