rhemastudent
:wallbash: Ok, I just got fallout3 and tried to install it. During the installation process I got an error while it was installing the textures. I hit retry 2 times and after that selected ignore (options were abort retry and ignore) Upon the rest of the files installing, I tried to open the game and it crashes upon initial loading. My PC is good enough PentiumD 2.8 ghz with 1 gig ram. My graphics card might be on the borderline I don't know. its a radeon x700 series. Anyone have any ideas? l3illyl3ob
It sounds like a CRC error. Clean your disc and try again, and try it on a different DVD drive if possible. If neither of these work, go to where you bought it from and exchange the disc, as they most likely sold you a defective disc.
WoogieMonster
Try doing the manual install: Put the disc in and right-click the disc drive, select Explore and click the setup.exe file.
rhemastudent
Try doing the manual install: Put the disc in and right-click the disc drive, select Explore and click the setup.exe file. I am currently attempting this :thanks: lets hope this helps. If not I will take a look at the disc... >.< (reinstalled the game and got the same message: CRC Error: The File path C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\Data\Fallout - Textures.bsa doesn't match the file in the setup's .cab file. The medium from which you are running the setup may be corrupted; contact your software vendor.) Soooo it looks like billybob was right... thank you both for the info
MrCooper2006
Make sure its not your DVD drive before you return it (i.e dust over lens or something!) Other CDs might work but a fault might just be breaking that specific part of the disc, I had this problem with Oblivion, thought it was the disc. But it was my DVD drive just not liking about 2/3 of the way thru the Oblivion disc. Weird. Good luck
rhemastudent
Thank you all for the info, I changed drives and reinstalled the game successfully. After a few hours of frustration I got the game to start! Just in time for bed. So... yay! I get to play tonight! :thanks:

Markzero
That sounds like your system is overheating and you have to press reset button.Check all temperatures while playing (use ALT+TAB or use windowed mode to see temperatures). If you don't have any software to check temperatures try to find your motherboard software installation cd (driver cd),but 1st check that you have the latest ATI/NVIDIA drivers installed and run "dxdiag" to see if there's any errors. macmert
First of all, I want to thank all of you for your great interest in this massive classic game, and I am really happy to get back to these forums after Oblivion, as a fallout freak, I was literally crying when I saw outside the vault for the first time... I played and finished both fallout 1 and 2, I never imagined that the conversion would be so great... After this brief blabber :D, I want to say a few things regarding the technical issues... I saw many people complaining about freezing, CTD's and crashes and AFAIK the game has some issues... I have 8800 GTS OC and 2 GB of ram, core duo cpu and I am also having some technical issues... the game just freezes and I need to reset the PC... I guess a patch will solve many of this issues...
