Favourite; Fighters Guild, I quite often roleplay a mercenary which makes the guild suit my needs quite well. Also the quests are well done and the fact that I've got a few mods enhancing the experience are things that made me love it. Dark Brotherhood is a close second, I've been recently into rp:ing powerful villains, needless to say, there isn't a single guard alive in any of the major cities after my visit, I've even had to tag all my merchants to respawn to avoid 'accidents'.

Least favourite; The Arena, the quests in this one are the single most repetitive thing on oblivion, I was first thinking of saying Mages Guild, but the quests in there got more interesting after halfway point which they don't in arena. The arena is a simple and brutal addition, go to the arena, kill someone and try to get out alive experience, not something that's fun to do lots times.

Best- Thieves' Guild

Why- Because I enjoy stealth gameplay where the focus is mainly on *avoiding* combat- straight-up fights are fun, but giving yourself a five-finger discount on a castle's entire wine cellar then pinching a ring from under a corrupt and sadistic noble's nose (the "jobs" are really only excuses to clean out the place, and everybody knows it) is really fun. The guild works because you aren't asked to serve a higher calling- the Grey Fox only exists to keep the thieves from offing or outing each other; the guild members are all in it for their own benefit. Offering protection to the poor makes sense in that context; not only do they have nothing to steal in the first place, but offering them a small part of the takings is also a way for the thief to thumb his or her nose at authority. There are plenty of thieves in Tamriel, but Thieves (note the capital T) are in it for amusement as much as profit, hence the Guild. Think of the Grey Fox as a sort of a game-master, the Doyens as moderators, and the guild members as players in a grand game of "stick it to the Man." That's the context of the Thieves' Guild, and that's what makes it fun. You're a criminal, but you're not a criminal because you're evil- you're a criminal because breaking the rules is fun. You're a bunch of adrenalin junkies with kleptomania and a bunch of well-stocked stores and mansions to choose from.

Worst- Dark Brotherhood

Why- Don't get me wrong, I like playing assassins... but the DB came across as a bunch of sadistic murderers who just happen to take payment for their favorite hobby. I don't really like how the primary motivation behind the quests is "to appease Sithis and the Night Mother." What, that's it? Not because "so-and-so is an evil jerk who needs to die?" I'd rather the guild be cold and detached than rabid and bloodthirsty as it is- one can be an assassin and still serve good, but the DB is out-and-out evil. The individual quests were fun- like I said, I enjoy stealth-based gameplay, and almost all of the DB quests granted huge bonuses for clean, quiet kills with a minimum of collateral damage. However, the guild itself fell flat on its face for me. Perhaps my characters just aren't evil enough to enjoy killing for its own sake- if they become killers, they want to be like Agent 47 and Altair, not Freddy Kreuger.

'The Arena is repetitive' What the hell did you expect![/u] You walk into a pit and beat the hell out of someone. What else was it gonna be?! :wallbash:

Anywho, I think That the Dark Brotherhood is awesome. Not killing people for the greater good and they're evil, your killing to appease some malevolent god's evil cult! How cool is that!

And one big prob with the mages guild is that you barely need magic to do it. It's entirely possible to complete if you're a sneaker or a slasher/basher. This is why I love the DB and Thieves guild; If you can't sneak you can't do. :ninja:

My favorite is the Dark Brotherhood, because I think it was the best written and most creative, and had the most interesting plot.

I named the Fighter's Guild to be the worst, because it was mostly just random quests and then a seemingly tacked-on conflict with a 'Remember children, say NO to drugs,' ending.

It did have its moments. Like Lord Rugdumph.

I also don't think its fair to judge the Arena by the same standards as the major guilids. I was disappointed that there wasn't anything to it outside the Arena (except for the Gray Prince's rather blah quest...I mean, the loser couldn't take an afternoon off to investigate his own father? Thats how long it takes!) It would have been nice if the Yellow Team had tried to bump you off outside the arena, or if different team promotors had tried to recruit you, or something. I agree that the Arena could have been much better.

i think that all guilds are grear in their own way,, Not evey quest can be just like the previus..

anyway, i voted mages guild for funniest, mostly because of origin of the mages guild :D

i voted the arena the most boring and dull, just because you can beat it at level one,,

- and i very much dislike FGs quests, i get really tired going through the same dungeon over and over agian,,

You got me wrong, I knew what arena was going to be, run in, kill something, get back out alive - action, I simply don't enjoy repetitive things.

You took the words right out of my mouth. On the poll I put my favorite as Mages Guild, but that's only because of Origin of the Mages Guild, the Vanilla version is boring and repetitive. I like your ideas about both the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood. The Dark Brotherhood shouldn't be so outright bloodthirsty, but they should be true assasins.
