    • I love it!
    • I like the upkeep and expenses, but not the collecting.

I have been annoyed with the amount of gold I get during my travels, and the biggest problem I face is that I get too much money. Even with the hardest level of cutthroat merchants I find myself being able to buy things whenever I feel like it. 20,000 gold ebony armor is easy at level 12.

I also feel like mercenaries charging 500 gold once and being your slave afterwards is stupid, along with other things. My solution is to make a mod that does the following things:

1- Followers ask for (20*playerlevel) gold per week, per follower. This would mean that the player would have a bit less gold. The gold would be removed and added to a hidden chest or global variable. The next parts would be split between the player's and the follower's gold when the player does them.

2- Inns cost 50 gold per night. Straightforward. Using a safe-chest mod would make inns a good choice to stay at before getting a house.

3- Houses cost more and cost money to upkeep. The fact that you're a thane means someone dusts and cleans while you're out, thus you pay 500 gold per week to keep a house. (Pay by talking to the person you buy a house from, and if you're late by three days the house locks back up.

4- Food is required. This makes marriage more useful, and adds some realism. Salt is made available for purchase at 5 gold per piece from the food merchants through dialog. This makes cooking easier. This would be much less complex than a needs mod, and assumes that water is drank from streams and other sources. It would basically be a -50 hp debuff per day you didn't eat 3 or more items from the food category. It also deals 50 damage when the debuff happens, making death possible. Followers get ignored.

5- Tweak and add other misc. stuff such as carriages and leisure activities.

6- Players can buy pets. They are tame foxes, wolfs, bunnies and more than can be only be dropped inside a house. They add to the houses upkeep fee.

7- Players can purchase extra house add-ons such as pools, buckets of jewels (which are worth 1 gold each to avoid being about investing.) and more.

8- Players can gamble. I'm disappointed at the lack of gambling.

9- Players can invest in towns. You could add a smelter to riften or another entrance to whiterun.

More features could be added, but I felt this was a good start and would give the gist of the idea. The actual values would be adjusted as time went on. Additionally the punishments for not doing these things would be relatively simple like followers leaving and requiring payment plus interest before you can recruit ANY followers.

I am willing to help make this, but I am very new to modding and would need some guidance. I'm a quick learner though, and have experience in C++ php and other skills that could help. It might be a lot of work, but I feel this would be an extremely awesome mod. I only speak English and have skype as well as a lot of free-time.

Thanks for reading.

mhm i dont think you actually get what used to happen in centuries ago whats shows in skyrim is exactly the same that happened in the time of kings and earlier wich is as more famous and power you get more you will have. secondly theres no fee in a house after you buy it i have 90 000 gold at lv57 but i only have breezehome now think wen i get the solitude/hjerim houses+upgrades. as for being a thane your granted a housecarl by the jarl itself and you pretty much already pay to your housecarl to 'clean' your house by allowing it to live with you and to 'eat your' food.

theres already mods that add salt purchaseable from vendors.

theres no vets in skyrim so why the hell after you get a dog you have to pay an upkeep to have it <.<

mhm houses pretty much have everything that they need already possible add-ons would be a smithery as you have enchant table/alchemy lab already (i think only beezehome doesnt have alchemy lab)

why there is jarls in the towns? youre not the jarl to invest in the town or tell what to do. and after all what is the point of having 2 gates in a walled city? now supose that the city is atacked so instead now there is 2 points to defend instead of one.

srr i dont vote as there is only 'good' options in your pool. you could go pick money from various places but youve gone mainly after places where expenses are suposed to not exist.

let me make it more detailed

1- follower instead of 20*player level make 500gold +20*follower lvl(this is more fair as followers dont exactly level at same time you do or are at same lvl as you)

2- inns you only stay one night so youre telling me that at the start of the game if i want to stay in a inn and sleep i gota pay 50 gold and loose all(maybe wont even have enough) gold

solution -> acording to inn grades (lets say they are classified) starter town inn = 10 gold (i dont remember village name) inns in citys cost 30gold per night and 50gold at solitude offroad inns cost 50 gold

3- houses cost more yeah not a big problem as long as their price is not doubled... solitude 50 000 gold?+upgrades that would be around 70k (im at 57 with 90k gold and im The dark brotherhood/thieves guild master archmage of winterhold college and dawnguard aswell finished as main questline)

4- theres already a mod for food so that you need to eat and drink this is not so much needed i think since theres a mod already

5- carriage? maybe add a fee for your follower to take your items for you lets say... maybe increase bountys (theres already a mod for it i think)

6- players can buy pets ok but would need to be limited number. fees no since there is no vet and paying 5-10gold per week just because of an animal wouldnt make a diference

7- add ons to houses? what do you want more tell me because houses have everything except a smithy (and enchanting table in case of breezehome)

8- gamble? and at what you will gamble? there aren't dice or cards or anything for gambling games (except animal fights etc wich is stated already by someone(ingame) that they are illegal and that dungeon is already cose to the riverwood(i remember the name of the cave now XD)

9- for investment in town nah but maybe atax for living in the town yes a monthly tax that would be lets say 10-20% to pay every 30 days since you purchased your house maybe these taxes really existed in the past but upkeep fees where 0 for those with power/money

I agree that there isn't enough gold sink in the game.

I am currently working in a project that will help in some aspects I hope. I am currently doing a job mods that doesn't give you insane amount of money for doing those jobs, while this one doesn't help the gold sink, it makes you able to make some money at a smaller pace.

My next one is to add businesses that you can buy, while they will make you money, they might also cost you a lot depending of how you take care of it.

I got a demo that I haven't released that adds gambling dens in Skyrim but they are more dialog based, so there isn't reallly much animations but you have good chances of losing your money instead of winning easily.

I like some of those ideas here and some of them could actually be quick to do so like making the inns and house *addons* more expensive. It seems to me that you are looking for immersive mod and that's the kind of mods that I like to do so I might do some of the small one as small side-projects when I need a break from my big stuff.

If you don't need such a mod, please don't tell me. I didn't add a negative vote option because if you don't like a mod you don't need to use it. I don't agree with a lot of mods, but I'm not telling them that I hate it. While I could point out the other abundant logical flaws in your post I will simply let it rest.

To littleork: Do you mind giving me some help with the modding? I have the time and gumption to do this, but lack the experience and specific knowledge. My steam username is Rapester. (As in own, not the act.)

I can help with small things yes, I have my own rather big projects right now but the changes to the inns wouldn't be too hard to do I think.Do you intend to do as differents mods or just 1 big esp? I have my gambling dens mod that I removed from the site a while ago but I could let you take a look, it's more in an early beta stage right now.

I understand that you have a lot to work on. I didn't realise you made jobs of skyrim. I used that mod for a while, but the voice acting killed it for me (no offense, it was just the way the orks would have the regular in-game greeting and then a much softer voice was exploding my face.)

I will watch the newer version for updates. I would offer to help voice act, but I have been told I have the voice of angles queefing. Good luck on that one.

Can you point me to any good resources on how to start modding? Where did you learn, etc? Once I get a bit better it will probably be easier, but there's a fantastic lack of instruction on papyrus scripting.

Thanks.

None taken anymore lol, The voice is being remade, voice acting won't be included until I am completely satisfy by it anyway and it will bei n a separated file.

For place to look, I used mainly creationkit.com, youtube videos and the creation kit itself by looking into specific quests to learn coding. Here is a link to a list of youtube videos.

I'm lvl 55 and have nearly 300k and own all properties in the game (including the three in Hearthfire). I posted recently to see if someone wants to create a building supplier mod using Hearthfire which, sell everything needed to build your homes including building the furnishings.
