777onizuka
This has only happened a couple of times so far, but I'm afraid that if it's already started it's just gonna get worse. The first time it crashed was when I left the Imperial City through the west gate. The loading screen came up, and just when it finished loading, everything crashed. The next time was when I was going on my way to Chorrol, and decided to try heading through the wilderness instead. Everything was fine, there were no enemies of any kind on screen, but then suddenly the game crashed again. I'm playing with FCOM, and this never happened before, so it's not hard to figure out that FCOM is responsible, but I don't want to stop playing with it, so I need different ways that I can fix this problem. And I don't think that it's because I installed FCOM incorrectly, because everything else is working perfectly.
Deleted269910User
The game gets random CTD's when the amount of mods activated is getting past 2 or 3, this is something that no one has been able to fix as it is a problem with the actual game than the mods themselves. The amount of time it takes for the game to crash varies from 15 minutes to several hours, in my case with rather heavily modded oblivion, I suffer random crashes every 5-6 hours, but when I even try to add a new mod to the list, it drops to a few minutes. Also, have you tried changing the load order you're using for your mods, mainly the ones that aren't fully recognized by FCOM as those could be conflicting with other mods you have and thus cause these issues. You could also check what programs you have running on the background, every instant messaging program like xfire, msn etc. can cause a crash if you simply get even a new message, same with your antivirus program if it starts downloading updates, basically you should make sure all of the ones mentioned above are shutdown for the time you play apart from the antivirus/firewall software and set their update times to be early in the day or late at night when you're least likely to be playing or simply turn automatic updates off and check the updates manually, which is easy to forget however and thus not adviced. 777onizuka
Okay, I'll try deactivating everything then, and see how that works. I don't really have much running in the background though. At most it's just firewall and antivirus, though the antivirus does occasionally download stuff, so maybe that could be it. As for mods, I used the FCOM mod manager, or BOSS, as it's called now, and it apparently recognized everything as having something to do with FCOM, so they should all be in the right order... And I don't really want to mess around with that. The only thing that seems to have any kind of conflict is actually the bashed patch. I use Wrye, and most of the stuff in the bashed patch has an orange checkbox. Oh, and the only thing I put in the patch was the leveling stuff, I think. So maybe that could be the problem? Deleted269910User
The mods don't have to necessarily conflict to cause CTD:s, it's a problem with the game itself when it gets heavily modified. I don't suggest disabling the firewall and antivirus programs completely, simply turn down their automatic updates or select a time for them to update on, when you're not playing. Nemesite
If having more than 2 or 3 mods is the cause of these crashes would it be possible to eliminate them if one was to merge all active mods into 2 or 3 seperate files using something like gecko or bash? I already use 2 merged files (1 for armour and weapons, the other for cosmetics, races...things like that), but i still have about 200 more loaded. I don't get too many CTDs but i do get corrupted auto and quick save files.
Deleted269910User
Bashing too many mods together has it's own issues and should you ever get problems with your mods, it will be a hellish task to find the reason. It's more about how much actual content is changed, but even having too many mods active at a time has it's own problems. You should refrain from bashing any mods that add quests or modify any areas heavily, only bash weapon mods with weapon mods, armour mods with armour mods etc.(Also make sure they're 100% compatible with eachother.) Any mod that adds a house or a similar/larger object, quests or a general overhaul should be left alone just in case.
