Help with Travel AI Package

I'm adding a custom NPC to mod-house created by somebody else (Riverside Lodge) and I'm trying to set up a simple travel ai package to get the npc to wander out of the house to an x-marker placed in the 'wilderness' a short distance from the house outside of any cells modified by the house plugin.

 

If I wait inside the house, the NPC walks out the door but when I go out to find them they have disappeared. If I wait outside for the schedule to start they don't appear at all and if I go into the house then they aren't there either so appear to have left and disappeared. If I 'wait' near the marker for an hour after then they just appear from nowhere, but only if I 'wait'.

 

I've tried the same thing but with the NPC starting from the Riverwood Trader and it works fine.

 

This is my first attempt at modding so I'm not sure what could be causing this behaviour.
