Modding troubles with nifskope and a new project

well, i have toyed around in nifskope before, but usually what i do there is not very advanced... i have made a few texture mods that needed me to mess with the UV map a bit to amke them look better, which i did in nifskope, but then i decided to do a new mod that means changing out some mesh objects in the old nif, and its not something im really familiar with...

i have not used my 3ds max in a long time, but i love to model, so i thought i would try and replace the head of the Akatosh statue in ebonheart, and i set out to find everything i needed...model, check,...textures, check...nifskope, check...

i imported the new model and texture (finally got the texture running right) into nifskope and it looked good there... then i opened the old statue model in nifskppe and tried to do the whole delete/copy/paste thing...but the copied branch would not go inot nifskope, something aobut a version mismatch....sooooo....

how does one import a model from the latest nifskope into a nif that is listed as being from the 4.0 version?

well, im not sure how, but i know it is possible... meantime im editing whats left of the old akotosh statue and so far the head replacement in MAX went really well...textures showd up, everything is proportional and looking good...just need to figure out how to get the new head on the old statue...

but in the mean time i might just do all that in max and then rename the model and its parts in nifskope to see if it will work as a replacement of the original... needed some work on the model anyway...had to move the neck a little and may redo the feet a bit...

any tips on replacing a model? can i just name the parts right in the nif model, or does it not matter? is all that really matters that my model is in the mexhes driectory in game to replace the original and then the textures are in the texture file?
