vampiresstrinity
Update #2: I managed to solve all of my problems with my custom NPC. My two issues were 1) my follower wasn't giving me any dialogue past "Follow me. I need your help." and 2) that he didn't have his custom KS Hair and was "greyfaced". You can see my solutions in the last post. Update: I ended up deleting the Gareth NPC that I made from scratch and remade him via copying and editing Vilkas. So I have fixed the issue with him not preforming follower functions. However I am still having issues with the NPC being "greyfaced" and not using the custom KS mod hair. I've Googled solutions but it appears that the old NifMergers that worked for Oldrim doesn't for SE. I downloaded NIFSkope to maybe see if the pathing is just bad but I have no experience with the program so I don't know how to use it. CK warnings I am getting: 1. "Could not find head part (0406DA42) on NPC 'Gareth' (04000D62)." I think this might refer to the custom hair. 2. In a popup: "TEXTURES:MaleHead.nif : MaleHeadIMF is missing a facegen tint map" and "TEXTURES:MaleHead.nif : MaleHeadIMF is missing a facegen detail map" I get these post using ctrl+F4 when reopening the npc in CK. I can see that the .nif, .tga, and .dds files are in the correct locations though. I read somewhere that sometimes the games looks for those in a Skyrim.esm instead of the Gareth.esp folder. However creating that folder and copying the files didn't fix it. And since I don't know how to utilize NIFSkope I can't double check the paths. Any help appreciated! vampiresstrinity
After a few hours of work I was able to get my NPC looking and working right. My custom follower is no longer stuck with the "I need you to follow me" option. For those that may have the same issues as me in the future duplicating an existing NPC and editing it seems to work better than building one from scratch as far as avoiding dialogue issues go. I specifically duped Vilkas. As far as getting my NPC to look right (no greyface/using modded hair) I had to download the Alternate Actors mod for Oldrim. Unextract the .bsa using BSE and then throw the loose files and .esp for the mod into my Data folder for SE Skyrim. Then I had to load the game, create a new save as AA asks you to do, reload the new save, use the new Command Humanoid power to take over my custom NPC, use the ShowRaceMenu cheat to edit him, make my changes, click yes when asked to remember face, and finally switch back to my main character using the new power from the mod. Apparently the tools they gave us (CK) are simply too broken to work otherwise. Note: When taking control of your NPC your old character may be greyfaced. You can ignore it. Mine went back to normal when I switched back.Note: I tried using the SE RaceMenu mod to export a .nif and .dds to use other than the ones from CK but they had the exact same result. Hope this helps others from running down as many dead ends as I did to fix these issues.
