anjenthedog
So, I was browsing "Today's mods" and ran across a new patch mod called "Minty Lightning Bugfix". It's for a mod I don't currently have, called "Minty Lightning Mod" Now, you're probably asking, "then why is he asking about anything if he doesn't have it?" Simple. Because it brings up something I've been wondering about for a while. Are patches preemptive? That is, if I install a mod that patches a bunch of things, but some of the things being patched are mods I don't have installed at present, will the patch apply if/when I do install said mod(s)? Or, are they (patches) only applied to *existing* installed mods? Do I need to reinstall the patch each time an affected mod is installed? To be clear, I don't have the mod noted, but even so, it still has some merit regarding various patch compendiums... thanks.
Grospolina
No, you shouldn't enable patches for mods that you don't have. Often, a patch requires that the mod's ESP exists, and the game will most likely crash if it's not there. Also, loose files will still be loaded, so if the patch modifies a vanilla asset, there can be trouble. However, if you're so inclined, you could install a mod/patch and then leave it disabled in your mod manager. Don't just disable the plugin though, as this can still cause problems - it has to be the entire mod (including loose files and BSAs). In NMM, disable it on the Mods page. In Vortex, disable it through the dropdown on the left. In MO, uncheck the mod in the left pane. Edit: Some mods do have mod detection routines, which look for an ESP and then do something if it exists. In this case, this is done through scripting and you don't need to reinstall the mod or do anything except put it in the right order. In the case of a mod compendium where the installer lets you select a bunch of different patches, then you do need to reinstall it if you add an affected mod. anjenthedog
Thanks. Everything you stated seems in line with what I'd *expect*. Just wasn't sure.
