Tomdonverry
hi folks,im posting here on the off-chance that anybody has run across this problem before or knows how to help. I recently bought a new PC (in singapore-where i live), and it all works fine except for the speakers. ill try to give as much info as possible.-They buzz-it gets louder as i turn the volume up, it gets much louder (2-3 times) when i turn a nearby lamp plugged into the same multi-plug thingy on, and it stops when i turn the main control box off.-They dont have the balance of sound right-in nearly everything, any voices are so soft as to be unintelligable. This happens with videos, games, music-everything. Changing the 'themes' and 'locations' in the sound options (eg: room, auditorium, etc) does affect this, but none of the settings fix it. Finally, no other sounds are exactly right-they're all slightly to massively out of pitch and the timbre is wrong. If anybody can help with all or part of this it would be much appreciated. Also, if i'm posting in the wrong spot, can you please point me in the right direction? Thanks! Thanks for that advice bben, i dont have time now but ill try all that on the weekend! EDIT AS OF 2 DAYS AFTER POSTING:Well, turns out that when i replaced the speakers i didn't swap one of the connecting cords, and when i did it all fixed itself. it must have been a dodgy cord and picking up interference, as the fellow below suggested. So its all fixed now-thanks bben!
bben46
It sounds like (pun intended) you are getting interference. you are picking up electrical noise. This is usually caused by poor electrical shielding in the device. However, if you have anything plugged into your system try unplugging it and see if the buzz goes away. Wireless devices can cause interference also. Turn off any blue tooth or WIFI connections. And unplug any wireless adapters such as a bluetooth dongle. Most likely problem is a wired microphone or external speakers. If you suspect the speakers, try another set - borrow a friends set if necessary. Cheap, un shielded speaker wiring can pick up interference as well. My cheap wireless earphones will buzz as I move around or when the battery gets low. If you have eliminated everything else, consider a defective computer - or sound board.
