Fallout 3 Radio

I admit, it's fun playing Fallout 3 exploding creatures, etc. But, sometimes that damn music gets so irritating. :wallbash: I've found the location of the music folder

(mine, yours will be different)

C:/games/Bethesda Softworks/fallout 3/data/sound/songs/radio/licensed/

But, how can I change the songs that play on the radio? Does anyone know? I placed some sublime and tech n9ne in the folder. But, that didn't cure the 60's make me wanna stab my own face off issue. Please help! =)

I'm working on a test to change all the songs on the Enclave radio to the real 1950 songs, I'm only having issues with music lag, distortion.

anyhow, the easiest way to change the music that play on the radio is by renaming the song you want to play:

Top_50_of_1950.mp3 to mus_enclave_america.mp3 for example.

you mean mus_enclave_america_mono.wav? It's the music that comes out of the radio (or jukebox?), just convert it.

Or if you can, add subtle radio distortion to it and stereo to mono dynamics. Adobe Soundbooth works fine for that.

play 'Sound\fx\xxx_radiostatictestsmall.wav' to see what kind of distortion I mean. It's a lot more realistic for sound to come from a radio. (you could merge those two files too).

but still, it's easy isn't it?

steps:

1. copy slipknot_song.mp3

2. rename slipknot_song.mp3 to mus_enclave_america.mp3

3. copy and convert mus_enclave_america.mp3 to mus_enclave_america_mono.wav

4. (overwrite and )place mus_enclave_america.mp3 and mus_enclave_america_mono.wav in Data\Sound\songs\radio\enclave

5. Try. It. Out. Now.

You could also replace the President's stupid speeches with more music, if you want to have a full music channel.

How to replace the radio music in the game:

ErIog posted:

I just accomplished a full radio replacement by throwing in random music, renaming it all to fall in line with stuff in the BSA's, and then making sure the timestamps were ahead of the files from the BSA's.

Here's a list of all the stereo radio tracks in Data/Sound/Songs/Radio/Licensed

mus_bobcrosby_happy.mp3

mus_bobcrosby_way.mp3

mus_coleporter_anything.mp3

mus_dannykaye_civilization.mp3

mus_ellafitzgerald_into.mp3

mus_generic_boogie.mp3

mus_generic_fox.mp3

mus_generic_jazzy.mp3

mus_generic_jolly.mp3

mus_generic_pink.mp3

mus_generic_rhythmforyou.mp3

mus_generic_sunning.mp3

mus_generic_swingdoors.mp3

mus_inkspots_idont.mp3

mus_inkspots_maybe.mp3

mus_roybrown_butcher.mp3

mus_roybrown_mighty.mp3

mus_texbeneke_guy.mp3

To replace any of those just drop your chosen music in that directory, rename it to one of those tracks listed above, and make sure the timestamp is newer than 11/1/2008. Remember to edit your ini file to invalidate old files so that it will always use newer files it finds in the proper directories.

To make sure it worked I chose the most unfitting music possible, an Avril Lavigne album. I renamed it. Edited the timestamp, and voila I was horrified to find that Three Dog's wonderful old-timey station had been commandeered by teen girl pop.

This will probably only change the music you hear when you listen through your Pip Boy. It probably won't change the stuff coming over radios in people's houses and stuff. If you want to replace those too then you can look up the mono file names yourself using this special new version of TESSnip that supports Fallout 3.
