Bug? Friendly NPCs gone Hostile

I don't know what causes this to happen, but it seems that some NPCs that I have befriended after accomplishing a quest for them have turned nasty on me without warning, from Whiterun to Ivarstead. Fortunately the NPC guards were able to put them down, but at the cost of seeing the downed NPCs get a coffin, forcing me to write a batch script to open up the console, point at the hostile NPC, fix the relationship, disable their aggression, kill and manually resurrect them.

 

My character is a level 86 archer/assassin; Timescale is set at 6, I'm using 1.7 and I have currently 94 loaded mods (including Dawnguard), so I'm not sure which mod causes their behavior to be altered drastically. Save files are now 20mb each, so I know they're bloated (but not yet ready to take the plunge), yet thinking of using the Unofficial patches to deal with the problem.
