Crimson tide - floating blood funny shapes.

Getting a problem where blood textures seem to be floating and swirling above my character (and not directly on skin) Sometimes, I get huge red rectangles on the shoulders (like shoulder pads)

 

probably not something many people have come across though, I know on here I'm clutching at straws, any ideas much appreciated.
