Tree LODs. Full is fine?

I've edited a GKB tree (sure landscape modders know this guy) in Nifskope by removing the foliage. Basically a cedar tree which is now just branches - dead. Looks good, has the desired appearance. Then I think ah! LOD may be an issue. So I check the LOD model for it and the textures it uses which are...

textures\terrain\tamriel\trees\TamrielTreeLOD.dds

and its corresponding normal file.

So now I'm thinking when I generate LOD for my new dead tree what LOD will be used? Will I get leafy trees from a distance and dead ones up close?

Advice please.
