RenScotson
So I haven't played Skyrim much until Hearthfire came out, due to Dawnguard making my 68th level unplayable with save game bloat around 68 mb. I attempted to recreate my redhead lady, jack of all trades, and have been enjoying Hearthfire but I had an issue with Birds and Flocks. I followed the suggestion on another than had the same issue, saved my game, deactivated Hearthfire and Birds and Flocks. Reloaded my game, saved it again, and reactivated with Hearthfire and the updated Birds and Flocks mod, but since then the game has been stuttering the freezing up on me. As much as enjoy creating new characters in Bethesda's games, I find myself stuck with just playing this one character type in Skyrim, and really want to get through some content. I find myself unable to due to game breaking issues that I keep seeming to run into. Starting to think its just conflicting mods, and as I try to sort though them I'm just not sure what I'm doing wrong. So I turn to you, Nexus Forums, and hope you can aid this troubled gamer. So starting at the top of my Nexus mods list. And I do use BOSS to sort these, and keep all of these up to date with the most stable version. I try to stay as lore friendly as possible, but somethings are just too good to pass up. Probably not the best mod list either, but I prefer spending my time ingame with what time I have. Probably why I'm having these issues. Edited October 12, 2012 by RenScotson
ciakko
How much video memory you have?If you have 1GB of video memory, or less, the Stuttering is caused by the bottleneck of the system RAM memory.Uncheck the hi ress pack should help. RenScotson
Yeah I have 1GB. I'll try that out and let you know if it improves any. Thanks! Update: The stuttering has stopped, get the occasional crash every now and then but no where near as bad. Thanks! James009
Be careful, I have a similar modlist to you and have been having the same problems. I think, if you're like me, your savegame size may be increasing and, eventually, lag and delays in things happening (ie. wood chopping and follower commands). I still haven't fixed all of it but disabling Alternate Start and Guard Overhaul (theoretically) helped. Actually, my followers downright stopped working until I disabled the Alternate Start Mod and I do love that mod. I think a lot of mods just aren't Hearthfire compatible yet. What's your savegame size progression? What is the current stuttering you are experiencing? Also, I've got a pretty nice rig with good video memory, game runs darn smooth except the stuttering when activating or doing certain things. RenScotson
I'm currently at 8.28 MB, with a 25th level character. I've just recently disabled Birds and Flocks, Enhanced Distant Terrain, Enhanced Night, Morning Fogs, Terrain Bump, Wearable Lanterns. And as I've breezed through the game I haven't missed them much. Freezing still happens, but I've only noticed it in Skyrim's open world. Indoors or in places such as the Soul Cairn I've been fine, working on my way through Dawnguard. Played for several hours without freezing up, but once I got back to the open world, it hit me again. Its been nice dungeon crawling without face-palming for not quick saving more often. I just can't figure out what's causing it, unless its just the game itself. Its completely random. Sometimes it freezes from quick traveling, sometimes for just turning around to look at the dragon about to breathe down upon me. I can move around for roughly thirty minutes and rarely up to an hour, freezing as I get to some precious ore to mine. So from instant to an hour, the game just randomly freezes on me. I suppose now that I have started my game I don't need Alternate Start active anymore, so I'll give that a try. I've also deactivated a few of the companion mods as I'm not really using them, there's just more life in the original companions such as Serana, Aela, and Lydia. I'm still using Cerwiden however as she's an awesome healer, I just wish she'd stop running away from combat, or when I tweak her settings, running into combat. Typically however I try to stick with only one companion, otherwise they just get in the way too much. Stuck with Serana for her quests, otherwise I still use Cerwiden, who is really helpful with the tougher encounters from Deadly Dragons. My rig information is now up on my profile. Game runs smooth at max settings, I just guess its not capable of going HD and extremely mod heavy, or using an ENB mod.
