ProjectVRD
Hi folks, does anyone know how to make a custom nighttime sky? I have seen some really nice mods, most even allow the stars to twinkle and shine. I am hoping to make one with the Three Pillars Nebula and was hoping somebody could point me in the direction of a tutorial?
powerofthree
Import your nebula image into Gimp, export as .dds file with the dds exporter plugin, save as DXT1, put the new dds file in data/textures/sky (create folders in Skyrim data folder if not there) and rename as skyrimgalaxy.dds. I think the star twinkling effect is caused by having no minimaps enabled, but I'm not sure. Hope this helps. edit: it's better to save it as DXT5 actually. I checked the galaxy file and they had transparency enabled, so when making your dds file, remember to make the area around the nebula transparent. ProjectVRD
I had a go at this, and the Pillars of Creation nebula looked pretty awesome to be honest... but I had an issue where there picture was displayed twice across just one half of the screen. Does anyone know how to get the picture to envelope the entire sky (not just one half) and to stop the picture being displayed twice? I tried looking at some of the mods that do the same and apart from resolution (galaxies being X wide by Y tall) I could see no other differences. I even resized my DDS picture to be the same size dimension. I would have thought that would solve the issue where the picture was displayed twice but it didn't, and I tried increasing the width of the size dimension to try and get it is encompass the whole sky, this didn't work neither. Such a shame, I would post a picture of it so far on Thursday (my next chance to get at the HDTV my computer is connected to)... the three pillars look absolutely monstrously huge, like a real nebula close up would considering they are the birth place of hundreds or even thousands of stars. It really did look light years across!!! :( Anyway, here is the nebula in question: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/b2/Eagle_nebula_pillars.jpg/400px-Eagle_nebula_pillars.jpg My picture did not have the black spots cut out, it was a whole picture, and even the stars shone through and continued to twinkle which I was happy with :D
