Fallout 3 system requirements

Hi,

I am currently playing oblivion on a laptop. It is a 1.5Ghz Core2 Duo with 2G ram and Nvidia 8600GS Mobile video card with 256M dedicated video memory. Anyway, it runs oblivion okay but I was thinking about Fallout 3 and was curious what's the video performance of Fallout 3 compared to Oblivion. I've got oblivion running with a load of mods including stuff like natural environments and better cities and it's still pretty good but I don't want to spend the money on Fallout 3 and then find out it's a lot slower. Any advice or information would be appreciated.

Thanks

Doug

I´ve tested both games on their default high settings (with HDR,LOD and such stuff) and my performance outdoors were:

Oblivion 24FPS

Fallout3 36FPS

so Fallout runs faster on my PC:

Athlon 64 3000+

2GB RAM

Radeon HD2600 256MB

yeah i know,my pc is kinda old but i hope that this post will have some information value to you

i got oblivion to work with my crap intel gma.

i have dual core .

i have 2gb ram.

i have windows vista

it crashs on startup.

it crashes the SAME way that oblivion did before i patched it.

all i had to do with oblivion was change the water color in the ini file,.

now i have purple water but the game runs at a playable framerate .

and bethsoft tech support told me in a roundabout way that third party optimization/ unoffical patches would enable this to work on my laptop.

and yes i could upgrade but my cdkey is registered to this laptop.

and i like the challenge.

"Hello,

Because you do not meet requirements. Its possible to get the game to run, however, we cannot help with that due to the fact, that you don't meet requirements.

Unfortunately, your system does not meet the minimum system requirements for the program to function properly.

see bethsoft said its possible.

they just wont tell me how.

:(

theres a shader model fix for oblivion and bioshock and doom 3 works on a vodoo 2

and all that jazz.

so theres some way to tweak the ini file to fix the shader model conflict.

somebody tell me how

Dude, if that GMA is all you got to play, than I can't criticize you. But I hope you do realize you will be having a lot of trouble making stuff run, and then there is the matter slow-motion ugly gfx to deal with. I've dealt with a shader model fixer in the past (for a X800), and the game looked like I'd eaten a couple of space mushrooms. I'll give you one thing though, if you can game on a GMA, you probably exceeded every expectation INTEL had.

As for the topic, I find this game to be lighter than expected. I ran Oblivion at 1152x864 HDR plus eye candy (8800GT 512). When I installed F3, it auto-set to maximum settings and 4xAA/8xAF, same RES. It plays nice at that setting, dropping FPS eventually when there is lots of lighting to deal with.

(specs: C2D 2.66, 2gb 1066 dominator, P5K-E, 8800GT 512)

I got the game to run on my below spec computer... just wish I could fix the outdoor jerkyness and lag. I have a AMD Turion 64 TL-60 dual core with 4 gb ram and an ATI RAdeon 1200 graphics card in my laptop. Don't have any problems running Oblivion at all, but wish I could fix this minor issue with playing FO3. Does anyone here know any tweaks that I can do to the .ini file that would help? The game runs perfect in the vault and indoors, just gets slow to respond outside.

I think they run about the same. FO3 is more optimized to load on the fly and feels smoother, but after some 10k RPM drives i never had loading pauses in Oblivion.

1280x720, 2xAA, 8xAF, mostly med-high settings. I first played oblivion on a 9800pro and the x1950 was like night and day.

p4 @ 3.6ghz

1GB DDR@466

x1950 512MB

  • 2 years later...

Well, my game won't even finish loading before it crashes..lol My specs are:

Windows Vista&7

500gig HD

4GYG ram

intel pentium processor

Invidia 7200 game card? or something?

My game has been playing like normal and no problems until just recently after I took out FNV and put FO3 back.
