Creating "comments" threads AFTER publishing mods?

I'm sure that I'm not the only person this has happened to.

When I initially uploaded my main project, I had never uploaded anything to the Nexus before. While deciding on the various options and settings for my download page, I chose to disable comments, since I didn't want people commenting before the file was available for download. I always intended to change this setting once everything was in order, and there was no indication that this wouldn't be possible. No warnings, no notification, nothing.

However, once the mod had been published, I was surprised to discover that one of the few options missing from the "Edit attributes" section was the choice of enabling/disabling comments. I contacted the site admin, and was briefly informed that this was not an error - it's part of the way the site is coded. I asked if this could be changed, but I never received another response.

Now I understand that the staff is busy, and that this site operates on a skeleton crew. Nevertheless, I feel that this is a major oversight that inconveniences both mod authors and users. Considering that we're able to add articles, which function through very similar mechanics to the comments sections (through forum threads linked to the mod page by tabs), I can't see this being a particularly difficult change to implement.

So I'm asking again, admin: please, please, PLEASE allow us to create comment sections for our mods after the fact. I'm so very tired of receiving complaints and accusations from users who think that I'm purposely trying to ignore their feedback. An official forum thread (my current substitute) just doesn't cut it, since it doesn't offer the ease of access or mod exposure that a comments section does.

It's enough to simply send any of the Staff a PM (with a link to your mod) requesting that Comments be re-enabled.

Takes us almost no time at all to fix that. (Done now for yours.)

But instead of disabling Comments, a better approach is to set the mod to "Hidden" until the file is uploaded.

In fact, that's exactly what the Terms of Service say... :whistling:

• Insure you upload a file for your file entry as soon as possible. Do not create "placemarkers" or "Work-in-progress" pages for files that are incomplete or you haven’t even created yet. If uploading a file will take a long time or you’re not ready yet then keep your file set to “Hidden” until you are ready. Do not deliberately create a file page without uploading any files just to generate hype or interest in your work; it will get you banned (uploading a text document with your ideas will not get around this issue).

Thank you for taking care of that!

As I mentioned in the original post, I did send the staff a message, but at the time I was simply told that that restriction was part of the coding of the website and that it couldn't be changed. I'm glad to see that, in the end, the problem wasn't difficult to correct. I would quote the original message I received, but it seems that I deleted it from my inbox at some point.

If I might make a suggestion, it might be helpful for new uploaders (and cut down on the admins' workload) if a warning was posted next to the "Disable comments on this mod?" option, stating that the choice cannot be changed by the uploader once the mod is published.
