Mod Manager download for SKYRIMVR impossible?

I installed SkyrimVR last week from Steam.
Other than that I have (Old)Skyrim installed and Fallout 4 etc. but NOT any Skyrim Special or Legendary editions

When I try to download mods via "Mod Manager download", I get an error message (even for a pure VR mod)
" ..."

It is impossible for me to set up MO2 game as Special Edition, because SE is not installed.
In Nexus it is impossible to select SkyrimVR as a game.

So, what can I do except download all mods manually?

Download Vortex.

 

Works perfectly.

 

And afaik the mods for VR are on the SSE page, just like the forum.

I installed Vortex just now - same result. Set Vortex up to handle Nexus Mod Manger downloads,
same error message. What is weird, the message keeps talking about Nexus Mod Manager.

Yes mods for VR are in SSE section. That would be fine if I had Skyrim SE installed. Which I do not.
Like the message says: none of the Mod Managers has Skyrim SE. I do not own that game.
I own Skyrim VR.

I don't really care which mod manager to use, but it seems SkyrimVR is not being seen by Nexus as a separate game. If there is a workaround, or just a matter of different settings, I'd be glad to use that.

I don't have the VR version of Skyrim but as far as I know the mods from SE are normal to use by the VR version. There are some exeptions. You need a the VR build of SKSE if you want mods who need that, and FNIS has a seperate download for the VR version. Maybe there are more mods with a separate VR build, but you will see that on the download page.
