Shadow of the Fallen
"Exactly what you want, sir. No more, no less," he says, hauling a quiver of arrows up from underneath the counter. "All for you, sir - no more, no less," he repeats in his rough, hawk-likened voice. He holds up five fingers this time as he streaches his hand out." MDRud216
Jaun reluctantly placed five copper :bleh: coins in the owners hand, after taking the bow and quiver he turns around: "you look well fed for a merchant..." Jaun heads toward the inn. he heads up the stairs and enters his room. He collects his lighter fur pans and ties the other, heavier clothing to his back, as a pack. Jaun picks up his belt, replacing the hemp cord with it. He then stared a moment at his male without a father sword, the slight surface rust leaving a faint orange stain on the quilted sheets that it lie on. He removes it and hangs it over his shoulder along with his new quiver. He heads toward the exit of the inn, passing through the bar his empty bow in hand. Chunky_Moose
OOC: Okey dokey IC: Traversing the streets of the city of Ganmok and avoiding the guards was easy enough for Julius but getting out of the city would be a problem. He had discarded everything but his broadsword in order to remain inconspicious and fighting his way out of the city through the heavily guarded gates was not an easy option. However, to Julius, the hardened veteran soldier, it was the only option. He waited till it was dark and he sneaked up to the first guard at the grand South Gate of the city. His broadsword made a quiet hiss as it was drawn from its sheath but that was enough to alert the guard in the deadness of the night. The guard span around but met with a blade to his throat. He fell forwards and Julius caught him to stop the sound of his armour hitting the cobbles. Now came the hard part, the other guards were all huddled together by a fire infront of the gate. Julius would not be able to sneak through without them noticing and his soldierly instincts took over once again and he proceeded towards them with his broadsword hidden from view. As he approached, he kept his head down so that they would not recognise him till the last possible moment. He walked quickly, almost running, towards the guards. They spotted him and they shouted "HALT! Identify yourself!" but he ignored them and continued on. The guards, now faced with a situation that they were unused to, drew their weapon and prepared for a fight. The captain of the guards stepped forward and shouted again "HALT!" and he too drew his sword. By this time, Julius was no more than 10 feet away from the guards and stopped within sword's reach of the captain. He kept his head down and began to speak. "I wish to leave the city" he said, "Please open the gate". The guard captain looked at him with semi-recognition. He studied him for a few moment then suddenly he shouted "THAT'S HIM! COME ON! AT HIM LADS!" Julius immediately ducked and swung his sword with great force at the captain's knees, the weak part of his armour. The swordblade cut through the cheap leather and took off on of the captain's lower legs. The man screamed and fell to the ground where Julius lept up and stabbed him in the face. Now five other guards were running at him and Julius ran towards the lever that opened the gate. He pulled it with all his strength and the mechanics that opened the huge gate creaked into life and the massive gate started to open. Julius ducked one slash, parried a thrust, ducked a second slash and dived into one of the guards and tackled him to the ground where he drove his sword through the guard's neck. He grabbed the dead guard's body and threw it at two other guards approcahing him from the same direction. The heavy body knocked them both to the ground and Julius was instantly upon them - after parrying a blow from another guard to the right. Julius beheaded one of the fallen guards with a violent slash from his sword and stamped his heel powerfully into the face of the other. The guard screamed and immediately brought his hands up to try to cover his shattered face. Before Julius could kill him, another two guards dived with their heads down at Julius. With a quick swing of his sword, Julius severed the neck of one of the guards but was hit in the stomach by the other's flying tackle. Julius was driven painfully to the ground but mustered the strength to punch the guard that had fallen ontop of him. Julius rolled along the ground, away from the guard's sword and got himself up. By this time, the gate had fully opened and Julius sprinted through it. The guard followed as Julius had expected and the guard was caught completely by surprise when Julius span round with his sword extended and the guard ran straight into the blade which impaled him through. Julius left the sword lodged in the guard's stomach, ran to one of the dead guards, took their sword and ran off into the wilderness beyond the city. Shadow of the Fallen
JuanAgain, the man seems not to notice your words, moving back to his workbench with swift ease. By the time he reached his chair, you had been long gone. On the way you notice a peice of parchment tacked to a tree, Wanted: Julius Haterius Caecilius, extreamly dangerous. A reproducted sketch of the man is beneath. At the bottom, you see the word, Reward: Dead or Alive, contact athorities. Back at the inn, nobody takes any notice of your bow. Likely enough, as it is not strung and therefor useless. The tavern has gained a few patrons since last you were here, they all mule about now, joking and laughing amongst themselves. Few tables are left, save for one in the shadow of a corner. It has good distance between a few of the other tables in comparison to the rest. Its about the best spot in the building for those that want to talk privately and still have the safty of others around. (You don't have to sit there, but i suggest you do, and wait for the other players to get into the scene) JuliusIt has been little more then a week since your incident in the Duke's home. Traversing the wilds was difficult at best - and were it not for your training, you have no doubt that you would have died out there. After such harsh travel conditions, and the constant threat of the Imperium hanging over your head, you have finnaly decided to risk a trip into civilization. Your only protection is the wolf hide mantle over your shoulders to hide your identity, and your broad sword. You never had any supplies to begin with, and you were lucky that spring was beginning to set into the forests or you would have had no food or water. Same as you have not seen good food, you have seen less money; the most you have is 1 or 2 silver half-marks. (See OOC note) Good luck. OOC: I suppose it would not be a bad time to explain my monetary system about now. First of all, there are three types of coins: copper, silver, and gold. Thats right MDRud216, you could have paid in silver for that bow, too late now. Further though, you can think of 1 copper as a dollar, 1 silver as a ten, and 1 gold as a hundred. The value is actually different, but that gives you a general idea.. Copper is next to wortless, silver is common among middle-class families, and gold is something that only kings pay with (I'll let it go this time, as I have not said anyhting about this before.) But, heres the confusion, a mark is less then a coin, by a small amount, and it gets smaller, half mark and quarter mark. They are exactly that. If a mark is 80% of a coin, then a half mark is 40%.. and a quarter is 20%. Note that it is not the exact percentage there, only an example. It varies slightly from region to region. Some peoples only coins, as they are a goverment issued form of currency (maybe thats why they are worth more ;) ). So it will really depend.. And this system is ment to be abstract, because, in the olden days, it was.
Chunky_Moose
Stumbling into the small village, Julius - unshaven and tired - still had his sharp vision and checked for guards. He saw no guards but pinned outside the village inn was a drawing resembling himself as he was when he was a Duke's Guard and a message offering a reward for him, dead or alive. However, only through a very careful inspection of this bearded and dirty man would would anybody be able to recognise him. Knowing this, Julius walked into the inn. As soon as he walked in a silence fell and maybe more than thirty pairs of eyes rested on him and stared. They followed him as he hobbled to the innkeeper. The innkeeper, a tall and burly man squinted at Julius through his huge bushy eyebrows and Julius stared back. Although fearing that he had been recognised, Julius externally showed nothing and wore a blank expression on his face. Finally the innkeeper spoke. "Well? What do you want then?" As soon as he had said those words, the inn came back to life and the chatter and drunken laughter started back up again. "I'd like a room, a small room, and food, hot food, and drink, strong mead. I have travelled recently through the wilds and have not enjoyed a bed, a hot meal and a dizzyingly alcoholic drink for several days." said Julius to the innkeeper. "How many days do you want the room for?" boomed back the gruff innkeeper."Just today" Julius answered."That'll be one silver mark" replied the innkeeper.Julius handed over his two silver half-marks and received the key from the innkeeper. He staggered up the stairs, into his room and collapsed on the bed. The bed was hard and uncomfortable but to Julius, after a week in the wilderness, seemed like a luxury four-poster bed that he had seen in the Ducal Chambers. The food and drink was brought to him and he devoured it. The mead was very strong indeed and, finishing his food, Julius fell asleep.
MDRud216
It had been a while since Jaun had seen the poor man hobble upstairs, he had been sitting at he corner table, quietly stringing his bow. Making a round a bout way through the inn, as not too be noticed as "on a mission". He made his way to the stairs and walked quietly up, first he swiftly opened his old room, empty as he aproached the next door he heard a faint snoring inside. He quietly opened the door and walked inside, positioning himself in front of the now closed door. Completely concealed in the shadows Jaun drew back the bowstring with an arrow notched. Being a skilled hunter his aim was sharp and a shot to the head would certainly be fatal at this range... "wake up... wake up lad, there are signs up all over town for yah..." Chunky_Moose
In his sleep, Julius was tormented by nightmares of the campaigns in the East. He was in the middle of a battle and he was some sort of disembodied observer as he watched himself hack people to pieces and wade through the piles of bodies and pools of blood to kill some more. He wanted to scream but could not and could only watch himself rip somebody's trachea out with his blood-soaked hands. Suddenly, the battle disappeared and he saw nothing but heard the faint sound of approaching footsteps. He heard the creaking of a bow and an indistinguishable whisper. His soldierly instincts told him that this was an assassin. He was now fully awake but kept his eyes closed and kept the semblance of sleep. His sharp ears heard the creaking of a bow with its string pulled taut and he had no doubt that it was aimed squarely at his head. With a sudden movement, he jerked his head aside and threw his pillow at the unknown bowman. The loosed arrow ripped through the pillow and thudded into the bed where his head had just been. Springing to his feet, he punches the archer in the jaw and grabs hold of him with his other hand. Julius readies himself to crush the man's windpipe when he feels a sharp dagger or knife rested against his stomach. Not releasing his grip, but acutely aware of the stinging knife, Julius stares at the man's eyes and growls to him, "Who sent you here, foul assassin? Who is your master? I could break your neck even with that dagger stabbed through me, assassin."
MDRud216
don't power pose like that, I don't even have a dagger or knife on my char Jaun chuckles, severely annoying the naive youth who held him... "I am no assasin, I would just like an explanation of your recent fame..." with an upward swipe Jaun knocked the head of his attacker upward and pushed him into the wall, pinning him. Through experience he had leaned how to hit without causing lasting pain.... far less than what the little punk diserved after tht last shot. Jaun pulls a folded pice of paper from beneath his furs, putting it close to the young man's face... it was his wanted poster.
Shadow of the Fallen
OOC: You were doing a bit of power posting there too, MDRud.. In any case, you are both forgiven. :D And, besides the odd reprimand or die roill (if things get serious), I'll just let PvP work itself out between the players. Chunky_Moose
OOC: MDRud, truce--> no more slugging it out :D IC: The blow had knocked back into the wall where the assailant pinned him but he had grabbed his broadsword as he was thrown backwards. He raised it when he suddenly let it fall out of his hands as he saw the Wanted poster with his own face on it. He narrowed his eyes and hissed at the stranger. "Well, you obviously know my name, who are you if not an assassin?"
