trashgarbage666
EDIT: So, it turns out the dead NPCs were using another NPC as a template, and those templates were set to respawn. Since the Respawn box for the dead NPCs appeared to be greyed out, I assumed the source of the problem was elsewhere. The lesson here is to always check the NPC's template for the cause of any strange behaviors. ---- Hey guys! Me again. Got a really strange problem on my hands, and I haven't played vanilla New Vegas in so long that I'm a little unsure of how common it is. Hopefully someone here can help shed some light! At the moment, the only mod I have installed is the one I'm working on. I was testing something in Goodsprings Cave which involved me killing all the coyotes inside, then waiting outside the entrance for four days so the cave's interior cell would reset. Inside the cave are three dead bodies: two wastelanders, and one Bright follower. Upon re-entering the newly reset cell, the two wastelanders come back to life. They also have all new items, as though they had been Resurrected. I ran GetDead and GetAV Health on them before and after, and here's what I got back: dead wastelanders, pre-reset:GetDead == 1GetAV Health == 0 conspicuously not dead wastelanders, post-reset:GetDead == 0GetAV Health == 0 Meanwhile, the Bright follower is still as dead as the day I met her. I assumed my mod was responsible, so I made a backup and started ripping things out until the wastelanders stopped coming back to life. Except they never did. Then I tested it without my mod enabled, and sure enough, it turns out to be a problem with the base game. So that's great. I keep comparing the wastelanders to the Bright follower to figure out the difference between the two, but I haven't found anything significant yet. Has anyone else ever had dead NPCs return from beyond the grave? Hopefully there's a fix. Edited October 22, 2019 by punchbattle

The lesson here is to always check the NPC's template for the cause of any strange behaviors. Quite a bit late, but I can add to this. Specifically, make sure to refer to the Use Base Data check, not just the NPC Template. It's this check that will follow the respawn check of the template NPC.
