MrSly
I'm a Thief. I DON'T use magic at all (not in character). I have a bunch of money. I want an enchanted (bow/sword/dagger) of (frost/fire/shock/whatever). I'm willing to pay for it. If only there was a store where I could customize an enchanted item for myself... I'm thinking of having a store located in the IC and possibly every town in the realm. I'd like to be able to bring in an item, and have it enchanted for me with whatever spells I'd like, and have it ready in 24 hours or so. It wouldn't have to do multiple enchantments, just single toppings (like normal)... There'd be a shop (maybe with elves working in the back  ) where I'd bring in an item, or purchase one there. Could be a shirt, some shoes, armor, robe, weapon, or purchase an empty staff in the store. Then approach an enchantment alter, and have an assortment of all enchantments available for that type of item, and choose what I'd like to have it enchanted with. Pay the fee on the spot (probably double or triple normal), and the item would be ready for pick up the next day (like the Mage's Staff). It could be in a pick-up chest, or maybe talk to the owner to get it. I'm a Thief, but still a consumer, and I know what I want, and I have the cash to pay for it. Someone should be able to make a buck from me. And I shouldn't be able to rob them, just not right for someone that's trying to help me. This would also be nice for all other non-magic using classes. As long as you have the money... I'd be willing to help, but my modding skills are noob at best so far.
BobSob2020
Idea supported, although I'd think it would be better if one (without magic) would just make choices, rather than seeing the backroom where the enchantment was done. I'd think this could have more of an advantage of choosing more enchantments for accessories, than with an enchanting altar, but having insane prizes (and probably construction times) for combo -stuff. And as disadvantage, it could be possible if the buyer could not affect the magnitude of the enchantments (and that magnitude could be determined by i.e. the mercantile or speechcraft skill). As for the elves... Well, to create bit of a back story, how about tiny gnomes that work all days trough in the back (of course could sneak at the back and not being able to see the gnomes, but knowing that one is spectated upon. As for the staffs, there is a staff shop -mod, but that's all it is, empty staffs for sale.
MrSly
I was also thinking about multiple enchantments, but thought it'd be to difficult to make. But who knows...? Gnomes work just fine for me, too. I was thinking the door would be locked, but if you just HAD to see what was going on back there... little people working on little anvils, and others casting spells on items. What if the initial price was for a full enchantment, but you could pay for a lesser enchantment. For instance, a sword of fire 10pts was $1000, but you only had $800, you'd get a sword of fire 6pts. Costs less per point the higher you go (buy in bulk).

Costs less per point the higher you go (buy in bulk). How about having extreme additions to items causing bit extra weight too. For example, you could create a sword that traps souls, absorbs 120 health and paralyzes on one swing, but would weight around 320 pounds, and use quite a lot of the energy too (a looters daydream, eh?). Quite like disadvantage for advantage -principle. It would be great to see the gnomes, too, but I more or less taught that the shop would run on all vanilla textures etc. However I wonder if the gnomes in this case would be knee-height (scaled to 0.25 of original size) goblins (so that no additional models wouldn't be required). MrSly
I like the idea of the weight. Could be fun! But if you just wanted a "vanilla" item, it'd be normal, of course. I was thinking about pint sized goblins, as well. Or, like I originally said, tiny elves. Since neither would require new models. I was also thinking about having a store in each city, which would have to "import" the goods to their city. There could be a "delivery person" like the newspaper, making a run each day. That would pick up on the traffic on the roads a bit.
Guest
That's funny, this is exactly something I was looking for. My char is a HTH fighter. She doesn't use magic. I want magic gauntlets for damage of some sort. I find them sometimes, but not what I want. I have money but no magic. Elves would be great since they use magic most. Maybe hav little elves standing on bolts of cloth, have a small pile of weapons in a corner, and maybe a couple helms that they use to enchant. Maybe have theyr clothes glowing a little (magic). Small goblins don't do it for me. they are ugly. Of course elves can be ugly to, but that's up to the person making them. goblins are always ugly. :) Is anybody working on this yet? I can help with making snall elves, I think. Don't know how to make altars for enchanting or anything like that. Hey, maybe have the enchanging thing give you boost in spell casting skills, and have it look at all of the spells instead of what you are able to do. That way you don't have to add spells to the person 'creating' the item, just have it on the station. Let me know if you want small elves. How many you need? 5? 10? Might slow things down to much of theyr to many. maybe 5. All male, female, combo? And what kind of clothes? or all naked? HA! Naked elves making enchanted weapons! ;D
myrmaad
Why don't you all just add Exnem's Runeskulls to your game? Then, you'd actually have to go work to find them, (cleaning out a dungeon), and since they're magic runeskulls, you don't have to have any magic talent to use them. You only can use one once, and sometimes they come with a downside, so you have to really choose carefully whether you want to use one for say an clothing/armor item as opposed to a weapon. When they deliver a downside it's best to use them for weapons, in my experience. At least this is a great option until a modder comes along who is interested in this idea.http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9412 And they're great to decorate with too! http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/SeaBlossom/otherstuff/oblivion/bliva281011-19AM12.jpg

Guest
Maybe you should just have a store that sells Sigil Stones. That should solve the problem easily enough. Or sell the RuneSkulls (with permission, of course). That way you can enchant anything lyou like, withoug an altar or anything.
