Nationality Expansion Mod (Planning Stage!)

Hey there guys,

 

I guess I'm a newbie posting around here but the release of XCOM has sparked my creative juices, one of the things which struck me was that the selection of national flags and soldier nationalities included in the game were rather limited, presumably to highlight the major council funders and other more notable countries.

 

Here's what I'm hoping to do, obviously I'll need to do a bit of investigation to see how feasible things are. :)

 

1. Add as many new countries as possible.

As previously stated, the selection is rather limited, this will require investigation into the feasibility of adding new nationalities in and adding new textures for each new country.

 

2. Vary number of soldiers for each nation

Hopefully with some assistance I'll be able to investigate the possibility of making larger nations or council funding nations spawn more troops than other non funding or smaller nations.

 

3. Nationality selection

It kind of hurts the ability to make custom soldiers when the nationality of the trooper is featured so prominently on the soldiers suit, I can't add myself into the game unless I get a UK soldier for example. It's something which would make things a lot more open if it could be remedied.

Any progress on this one? I tried to do the same but failed... anyway I wanted to add couple of new nation to the game. Mainly nations that cooperate in "world peacekeeping operations" led by US of A.

 

Anyway I wanted to do a proper job and besides adding the nations flags add the proper names for soldiers. Also I wanted set the probability for getting a soldier and also link the nation to proper body types (so we don't get black Fins and white Kenyans).

 

Idea was the following: use the existing texture called flags.dds and resize the original flags a bit so instead of 32 we can fit 50 flag in there. I also made the flags, looksee below (better than original, with properly resized symbols on flags).

 

I manage to set starting point for each flag properly in defaultcontent.ini. Also I inended to add new nations name in defaultnamelist.ini.

 

Countries are created in "xggamedata" script inside xcomegame.upk and can be added there i guess. "xgcharactergenerator" script contains link for names of the nations contained in defaultnamelist.ini. It also seems to me that this script set the physical characteristic (appearance) of a soldier from a specific country as well as probabilities.

 

However I failed to find script which defines length and width of flag textures which go on soldier backs. Also I don't know how to get those script back into game once they are modified so I'm stuck. Can anyone help?
