Texturemods don't load

exportforce

Sounds like you have everything right mate, I had to make my own texture folder, and my own Archiveinvalidation.txt file too.

Here's my path E:\FALLOUT 3\Data\textures\weapons\1handpistol for the 10mm pistol mod i got.

I made my own sound folder E:\FALLOUT 3\Data\sound\fx\wpn\pistol_10mm\fire is the path for that, then the files in there.

I think some of the files we download aren't "zipped" up correctly. If you extract them the default way they don't get installed in the correct place.

I found I had to make sure my Texture Quality was set to "high", my computer is pretty low end and I was playing on everything in bare minimum graphics wise.

I hate to say this but in all my experience of helping people out on this board it isn't that the mods are borked but that they simply are not being put in the correctly. I'm not telling anyone to go suck eggs but this has always been the case.

Now back to the case at hand and my apologies if things are repeated it's just I like to work through it all step by step.

exportforce, you say that you changed all four ini's? Why are you doing that? Only the Fallout.ini needs to be changed. This is found in MyDocuments/MyGames/Fallout3/

The ArchiveInvalidation.txt goes in your main Fallout 3 folder only.

Textures go in your Fallout 3\ Data directory. The full pathway for me using XP is C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Fallout 3\Data\

Are you using more than one texture mod?

Can you post a link to one of the mods that you are trying to use?

Are you using Vista (a known problem maker for Fallout 3)?

We'll get their mate

I am using Vista. Now what?

I'd search Vista on this forum. I think there are a few tweaks and workarounds you may need to employ.

Unfortunately I can't help here as I use XP.

I use Vista as well. The problem with Vista and mods is that User Account Control isn't happy with file changes. If you've turned UAC off or changed your installation directory (reinstall) to c:/games you'll be much better off.Microsoft advises against turning UAC off but it's up to you.I turned mine off because i couldn't stand the annoyance.

My version is the 32bit version.Vista Home.

The Archiveinvalidation.txt goes in the program files/Bethesda Softworks/ Fallout 3 folder.

Here's an example of the way the paths should look.I like to type in my own paths exactly as i find them in my Data file.

The Fallout.ini is in Documents/My games/Fallout 3/Fallout.ini

Here's an example.

If the mod is in a 7zip you really should use 7zip to extract them.Using another zip program can leave files behind. It's happened to me.

It's best to install one mod at a time and check it out in-game.I haven't always done that and have wished i had more times than i care to remember.

I usually open the zip first to see if the files are all in a nice neat folder. If not i create a folder to extract to.Then i check folder names to make sure there are no misspelled folders.I have found misspelled folders. The readme is next of course.I used to get in a hurry and would end up missing something i shouldn't have.Well i quit doing that lol.

If it's just a simple mod in a Data folder i drag and drop it to the Fallout 3 folder and wait for the confirm folder replace prompt clicking yes as many times as necessary for merging Data, textures and meshes folders. Also, sometimes you'll be overwriting files,as well,as in an update to a mod already installed.

If it comes in a textures and or meshes folder i drop it in Data, again waiting for the prompt. If there's no prompt somethings wrong or it's your first mod.I've accidentally dropped a Data folder into the Data folder and wondered why i didn't get a prompt, duh.

Hope this is some help.If not you can pm me if you'd like.Good Luck.
