T420M Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 How did you get it to work? I can mod it but I can get it to overwrite with my new values.
BGBailen Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Apparently, those config files don't actually do anything, as a lot of people have tested renaming, or deleting them altogether with no issues. Only one of them is actually loaded, not sure which one. You have to edit the exe directly to make solid changes to the game. google resource hacker, open it, drag your (game path)\binaries\win32\XComGame.exe onto it to open the file. in the resource hacker, open RCData->1020->1033, and there you'll find the same config file. compile and save, and your changes will work, just be careful with what settings you change.
BlackAlpha Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 An easier method is to use the modpatcher: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/804882-modpatcher/ It will also allow you to distribute your mod.
Thephedora Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 (edited) You say to use the modpatcher, but what exactly does it do? All I see is a little 2inx2in window pop up then dissappear. Does it make the xcom .exe read my changes to the .ini files or...? Edited October 28, 2012 by Thephedora

BGBalien, you are a BG'A'Alien in my books. That program is not only amazing in general for it's capabilities, but as for modding XCom:EU and EW, works perfectly, amazingly and is incredibly simple. Thanks a bunch for that, props. Edit: FYI The .ini file that is loaded from the folder is defultinput.ini you can use it to bind cheats to the keyboard (add resources, cash, engineers, lower panic, alien bodies etc...) dubiousintent Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 That describes editing the resource cache, which is internal to the game EXE. While it works fine, those edits will be overridden when you enable loose INI file loading for other mods, specifically the DGC.INI. (ToolBoks in particular does this automatically when first run.) This is laid out in the 'Details' section of the 'Basic Guide to installing mods' wiki article. If you don't understand this, you can suddenly find your game seems to have 'reverted' without a clue as to why. (We've learned a lot since this thread was first started.) -Dubious-
Larsenexz Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Dubious I am not able to 'enable teh config INI file. I have renamed the exe to Y but none of the changes to my config (gamedefault) changes are applying. Oh and your basic guide link does not seem to work. I am just flustered and not able to get the changes I am looking for.
