mercurikun
Hello and thank you for viewing my topic. I've been playing skyrim since it came out. I first started on the xbox360 on launch day and was originally impressed with load times graphics and such comparing to oblivion. But after searching youtube and seeing how much better skyrim was for PC I decided to beef up my gaming rig that i put together in 09. Everything went beyond my expectations until recently. I am now getting hit with load times worst than the 360! DX I've tried to reinstall skyrim with no results, then tried reloading my computers OS and get nothing again. I dont know if its my mods or what so I'm hoping for a little help. * Your masterlist is already at the latest revision (r5716; 2012-10-19). Thats a pretty smart solution then. But i'm doing nothing of the sort. I think my problem might have something to do with "Serious HD Retextures" Not only am i getting long loads but my game will get "mini strokes" freezing the game for a few moments then picking back up. I also noticed that my audio lags a lot then will catch up all at once to current.
blitzen
How big are your save games? Are they huge (>15MB)? Also, I believe limiting the frame rate was a strategy to reduce the load, times, instead of being a cause of long load times. Which may mean you actually want to try that. There was a topic on here recently which discussed that very issue.

My saves are 5.68mb and my fps ranges from 40-60 depending on where i am, 60 in most parts of the open world and 40s in towns
Tom2681
Are you using ENB? If yes, try without. Sometimes it can affect loading times.Have you been tinkering with skyrimprefs.ini? If yes, you might want to delete skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini and let the game regenerate them the next time you play. Could be something as simple as the textures, too.Someone with 1gb of video RAM should not be using any kind of texture pack. You're just asking for trouble, there.

As for the texture packs I am guilty of that lol. But i am using the lite version of "Serious HD" that the author said are meant for 1GB VRam cards. Rennn
Also, I believe limiting the frame rate was a strategy to reduce the load, times, instead of being a cause of long load times. Which may mean you actually want to try that. There was a topic on here recently which discussed that very issue. No, I started that thread actually. Limiting your framerate will only make load times longer or leave them the same- it won't make them shorter. People recommend a balance of a cap of 35 to keep loads fairly short and to keep the framerate stable on lower end cards, but really Skyrim is meant to be capped at 60 with internal vsync for the shortest loads. Framerate capping isn't just used to keep cards from overheating or to avoid wear- it also can reduce stutter on lower-end cards. The Serious HD retexture is meant for 1GB cards, at minimum, but I also doubt that a 550 would have a very high memory clock. And really 1GB is just a guesstimation on the author's part, since screen resolution and a host of other factors also influence memory use. And in load times, your cpu and RAM will probably determine most of the length. I'm not familiar with the specs of a Core2 Quad, but I don't imagine that an older 2.76Ghz cpu would handle a full hd texture pack very gracefully. Having DDR2 RAM probably doesn't help much... Honestly you might want to pick and choose which textures you want to keep, because I'm not sure your rig is capable of keeping loads short with a total hd texture overhaul at 1080p, on an engine that doesn't support texture streaming or any advanced lod techniques. Maybe get rid of common ones like ground or grass textures. Mountain and rock textures are also quite big. Water is another large VRAM hit, but Skyrim's water is so bad in vanilla you almost have to keep hd water of some kind. Shadows can kill both VRAM and CPU cycles... See about turning those down. ENB mods can filter shadows for a small fps hit, and therefore can make them look better even at lower resolutions. Save bloat is another issue to look at however, and it's the easiest to check. And a lot of mods adding scripts, like HD Rabbits+, Birds of Skyrim, or any other awesome mod that does similar things will stress your cpu heavily, which can cause stutter and obviously increase load times. I don't really feel like finding and explaining how, but you could also likely increase the amount of RAM allowed for Papyrus Scripts.
